Skyclad - Reveal New Album Details, Release Date

Today, Skyclad have finally revealed details about their upcoming 13th studio album. The long-awaited successor to 2009's In The... All Together will be released on the 28th of April and has been given the title Forward Into The Past. Featuring a lineup of six musicians for the first time since vocalist Martin Walkyier left the band in 2000, current vocalist/guitarist Kevin Ridley states that they have written songs "about politics, the environment and the music business and so on [...] mixed with the standard Skyclad fayre of traditional bawdy/drinking type of songs and songs with blues and more 'ethnic' feels." In other words, kind of what one could expect from the British folk metallers, but we will have to wait and see how the return of early-90's guitarist Dave Pugh has affected the sound.

The album cover art was made by Duncan Storr, who has also painted covers for Edge Of Sanity and Hawkwind. About the album art, Ridley says: "The 'green man' or 'storyteller' image used here is a traditional image (from Roman times at least in the UK) which is usually taken as showing the close interdependence between man and nature."

But most importantly, Duncan Storr did most of Skyclad's artworks (like, all but A Semblance Of Normality and In The... All Together.
It's good to have him back; his artwork has always been a part of Skyclad's identity to me.

Yep good to see Skyclad stick to their strengths, they were always best when pissed about something... Eh, didn't they have a song called "Black Summer Rain" on the previous album though?

Oh, didn't know that. This cover art looked a bit more old-school than previous ones. Kind of like the Another Fine Mess cover (but with branches instead of fire). I dunno why but something about this album art gets my expectations up quite a bit. This should be good.

Not sure what you mean here. But regarding the politics Skyclad were always quite to the left so my point was that there would be no surprise if they wrote a couple songs about the "state of the union" especially now that the British voted like they did Keeping my fingers crossed for some Walkyieran wit on here. Martin Walkyier is/was definitely one of the best lyricists ever.
