Moonspell - Reveal First New Track Off Upcoming Record

Portuguese metallers Moonspell just unveiled the first new music from their upcoming album entitled 1755. The song "Todos Os Santos" or translated "All Saints" can be enjoyed down below. The new record 1755 will be out November 3rd and will be completely sung in Portuguese. The lyric video features the lyrics in Portuguese and also the English translation. How do you like this first song?

Frontman Fernando Ribeiro added the following comment about the song: "Even tough this all happened in 1755, there are still a lot of world and country leaders that think themselves as saints, with a sacred mission, chosen by any God. What really happens is that they save no one but themselves and this video showcases the message of the song: as in 2017 or 1755 all saints will not be enough to save us."

The instrumentation sounds good, but I'm not sure if the Portugese is going to appeal as much to me, we'll see.

eheh, yes, it's pretty good. Somehow I wasn't expecting this instrumentation but I'm pleased. Also pretty proud to hear my mother tongue

They tricked us. It was supposed to come out today.

Yes they did trick us.
I like the fact that the album is going to be in Portuguese, it makes it sound more heartfelt I think. I can also understand a bit of it.

I liked this sound. Faz dia em Portugal indeed! If the rest is that good, this will seriously be one of the best Moonspell albums...

''The day rises in Portugal'' seriously??? this is the chorus?? I've heard this a few times already and this just doesn't work for me. I'm sorry. Repetitive riffs, corny intervention lyrics and that small uninspired guitar solo in the end preceding a 10th time repeated chorus... It's just bad. Song goes nowhere, just keeps circling on the same thing. Only good thing in here is the intro.

And then there's the video... I felt like I was watching a bad punk rock clip from the 90's dwelling about social/political issues in the world... boring!

I'm all about a band stepping out of the square and do different things but they need to know how to do that. I don't think this is it. I'll wait for the record to come out and see if anything of this makes sense to me at all.

The instrumentation sounds good, but I'm not sure if the Portugese is going to appeal as much to me, we'll see.

Why not? It´s such a beautiful and poetic language.

I've never really been grasped by anything sounding spanish/portugese/italian/french. But scandinavian languages like finnish and icelandic have a much bigger effect on me and I can find myself singing along to them as well.

French is really meh for metal, one notable exception for me being Rotting Christ - Les Litanies de Satan

Otherwise in rock/pop/new wave : Indochine - l'Aventurier

I noly know the band from their latest album Excinct that is very good while sometimes a bit too cheesy I think. I don't like their earlier works and it seems that this album is going back to their roots as I really cannot get into this track. That's quite a disppointment to me. Guess that Extinct was an unusual album to them and the only one I will ever enjoy listening to :/

I enjoyed the song even when the portuguese language makes it sound a bit cringy. But it has personality and the political message is a breath of fresh air in Moonspell's imaginary. I think the gothic imagery they explored for so many years was getting clichéd, so it's nice to see them trying new approaches. Even if i have doubts regarding Moonpell becoming a "political band".
I understand that the songs being sung in portuguese will probaby alienate a lot of fans, but at this point we must give Moonpell credit for putting so much effort in surprising their fans. This song surely surprised me in a very good way.

... The singer on this song is Vorph from Samael; he is a native French speaker.

Yes, I don't know what I was thinking. I have even written a review for this album saying: "especially Vorph gives a great performance in the fabulous 'Les Litanies De Satan (Les Fleurs Du Mal)' and taking into account how dreadful Sakis's English accent is, it was probably a wise choice to ask the Samael vocalist, Vorph, to sing French."

Well, this one really straddled the line between tasteful and overbearingly cheesy, but the instrumental was spot on and I was left with an overall good impression.

Don't think I could stomach a whole album's worth of it, though. It's difficult for me to hear stuff in my own language, though the album seems to have a cohesive concept.
