Amon Amarth - Writing New Material

After some Amon Amarth touring news with country mates Sabaton, it's time for an album update. The good news is that the Swedish melodeath Vikings are "halfway through writing" material for their next album. So, they are already focusing on the follow-up to 2016's Jomsviking.

Speaking to Australia's Heavy magazine on Saturday (March 24th), bassist Ted Lundström said: "We're halfway through writing the new album, and the new stuff sounds amazing, so we're really stoked to get back into the studio as soon as possible."

About how it is sounding: "We're always trying to take it to the next step, but in the end, even when we [say], 'We're gonna do something really different,' it will still end up sounding like Amon Amarth anyways. We're doomed - we're always gonna sound like this."

Jomsviking was such a disappointment for a long time fan like me that I stopped listening to them. Well there are still other albums but hey Amon Amarth surprise me and bring back the old flame !

I know everyone is taking the piss out of this, but if they can genuinely write anything remotely better than the last release people will be happy, myself included. Amon Amarth have a formula and it works most of the time.

Good for you. This will amount to another fillerfest without a doubt. These guys peaked in 2006.

Pretty much man. And since then they've been rehashing the same album over and over.

I guess I'm the minority here, but I enjoyed Jomsviking. I've enjoyed everything they've released. Glad to see them back writing.

Jomsviking was like every album released after 'With Oden...', 1 or 2 good songs and a bunch of filler. I will be expecting the same from here on out.

Official statement from the band which would snag many listeners off.

Just play their last one in random order and you get a "new" album. That's their formula for you.

Nothing wrong with releasing the same album every time, why fix what isn't broken? I liked 'Jomsviking' a lot, I'm sure this one will be awesome as well.

You're not the only one. I liked ''Jomsviking'' a lot too, as everything else. For me the lowest point was ''Deceiver of the gods'', and it still featured some good tracks.

I like the bands to evolve and try new things but in this case I agree. It still works, and hopefully will for some more time...
