Amorphis - Share Video Clip Feat. Anneke Van Giersbergen

As you know, Finnish melancholic progressive metallers Amorphis have just released Queen Of Time, their latest offering, via Nuclear Blast! In addition, the band unveiled the music video of the third single "Amongst Stars" featuring singer Anneke Van Giersbergen (The Gathering, The Gentle Storm, Vuur). Watch the final result below and check out the entire album if you still haven't.

Esa Holopainen comments: "'Amongst Stars' turned out as one of the most solid songs on the album. The song itself was not the easiest one to work with. We tried a lot of different variations during the pre-production and finally Jens' co-producer friend Per Aldeheim came up with these great vocal lines and idea for an duetto. We have been privileged to work with Anneke before so it was pretty clear to ask her to help us out with the song. As everyone knows her voice is more than stunning and she is surrounded by incredibly positive aura. As a result we have a really beautiful and catchy duetto where both singers do unbelievable work. We are extremely happy that Anneke was available during the time of our recordings and it was great to get her to the video as well. Lucky us."

And Anneke van Giersbergen adds: "When Amorphis asked me to participate in a song for their new album, I immediately said yes without having to listen to it first because I knew it would be good. But when they sent it to me to start working on it and I was totally blown away! It's such a powerful and melodic song, I am proud to be part of it. The video for this song is equally epic. The guys of Amorphis look and sound fantastic and I am truly happy to ride with them on this journey towards their new album."

This single is the last nail in the coffin; this is, and will be (unless something extraordinary will happen) the best album of 2018, hands down.

AAannd I have now bought the album. I've bought albums for just 1 amazing song, but three of them? I don't even know how I waited till the second day of its release to get this one!

No need for a vote for the Metal Storm Award: we can already declare Amorphis the winner.

Maybe it's just the fact that I've never understood the appeal of Anneke, whom so many prog and proggy-ish artists want to constantly cooperate with, but I don't really care for this song. I am overall surprised by just how positively this album is being received, it seems like a clear step down from Under The Red Cloud. Nothing as immediately impressive as that album's title track or Dark Path on this album.

Napalm Death/Moonspell/November's Doom or has the prog realm extended overnight? But maybe it's just the fact I'm worshiping the ground she walks on

Joke aside this is much better than the dull Vuur, so no complaint from me. Were Aleah Stanbridge still alive though.

I was thinking more of her collabs with Arjen and Devin and possibly Anathema, who are proggish too at times. Also, literally everything is better than Vuur, so that's a moot point

I really didn't mean to insult Anneke either, she's been involved with some great projects, I just don't find her vocals at all appealing. And yeah, RIP Aleah.

That first sentence was meant in jest (although I was really in worshiping mode when I was younger)!

Personally I largely prefer her non-proggish collaborations since my tolerance to prog is not exactly high (except Ayreon, I know, I know, it's an anomaly...).
I agree with you to the extent that her voice is not well suited for some music styles, which was painfully demonstrated in Vuur.

While this may not be quite as good as UTRC it's a bit different in a good way, more progressive and sneaky oriental.

Ehh, I put a little wedge between these doors of enthusiasm, plastic disco keyboards is what utting me off and radio pop choruses, Amorphis is used to be good METAL band, but now? Something for "la-la-la metal fans", sadly.
Metal album of the year? They will be lucky if get to my final 30.

Grain Of Sand has one of the heaviest riffs ever written by Amorphis. The singles / videos from this album are the "lighter" songs.

Did you like "The Bee"? I'd say most of the album follows in the vein of that more so than Amongst Stars and Wrong Direction. That said, Wrong Direction is also likely the weakest song on the album but it and Amongst Stars do a great job of providing some variation. Definitely not an album where the band released the best songs as singles. It's fantastic!

I know a lot of people don't like Anneke's voice but I do, a lot. She has a great quality which is to fit in a lot of different styles almost effortlessly. She's versatile.

I also liked this song very much.

To my ears, she always sounds pretty much the same. And is impossibly overrated

Not sure I made myself clear enough : I have already listened to the whole album a couple of times and while there are some great moments in it, I'm not sure I like it as much as to buy it. Funny thing is that some parts still sound like the old Amorphis I listened to in the mid 90s.

Is this Sonata Arctica's new single?

The lyrics aren't nearly embarrassing enough for that to be the case.
