Pestilence - Patrick Mameli Denies Racist Accusations, U.S. Tour Cancelled
Following a recent article on Metalsucks accusing Patrick Mameli of being racist, based on his reply to a fan's comment on Facebook back in 2017, the Pestilence frontman has responded with a detailed statement that you can read below.

"Official statement: Pestilence nor myself are in any way a political band. We do not condone or support nazism or racism in any way. Pestilence exists only to create awesome music for our listeners and fans. We have many fans that know and have followed Pestilence since the beginning. We have never been a political band. Pestilence exists for over 30 years now and we have never had to deal with any accusations on being racist, supporting nazism or anything similar.
"On being a racist, 'for god's sake, my soon-to-be wife is ASIAN, how could I be racist? We LOVE our fans of all races, religious convictions and different beliefs. Being Dutch I can tell that what I said isn't racist at all. It's simply translated incorrectly. That word has no negative association in the Netherlands as the infamous n-word has in the US. There is a different inappropriate word in Dutch that is a better translation. All in all, this is nonsense of the highest order'.
"We will not let our good name be slandered by sites like MetalSucks, that are just out there to create chaos. Most people got our back on this one, but there seem to be some folks out there that still believe those BS stories. My words have been twisted and a ridiculous story was produced to make us look bad. Again: we are not a POLITICAL band. We entertain. That's all. Don't let your judgement be clouded by just a few people out there that want to slander bands for their own personal benefit. This time it's us, the next time it could be you or your band. Stop this madness. This way a lot of bands could get banned from the U.S. just because of false accusations and statements. We can not let this happen. The metal community needs to stand up against these type of sites!!!!

Patrick Mameli then went on to inform the band's fans that, as a result of this article, the scheduled Pestilence tour in the U.S. has been cancelled by the promoter. He commented: "Thanks to metalsucks and their followers, our US minitour has been cancelled by our U.S. promotor. We are saddened by this and how people believe a shady person, to say the least, over us/me. 30+ years of Death Metal, and never one accusation of racism, nazism or sexism. What a joke. Pestilence's line up has always been international. How can that be racist? Good job done metalsucks and the people involved in trying to slander us. Pestilence will remain with pride and dignity. We love ALL our fans worldwide. No matter race, culture or any difference. Together we stand tall.

I can't believe it! Patrizio Mameli has italian origin from Sardegna, centre/south of Italy. The band had Marco Foddis, another guy from the same part of Italy (and recently count a guy from Venezuela, Santiago Dobles // also Tony Choy is Cuban American). He was born and lives in the Netherlands, a multicultural and free country in so many ways. How can some people's mystification of his words ruin the reputation of a band/guy never involved in something like racism? So sad! How long will we allow some bad journalism to destroy the hard work of good musicians. Even if it was true, we are talkin' about music, men! Everyone has the right to be what he wants to be. There are many ways to think in a free society. We don't condemn opinions in democracy, we fight actions that limits freedom and put other people in danger. We should fight crimes and prevent it, not ideas. Some ideas are good, some are bad. As an example, we don't fight religions, we fight the ones who use religion to do bad things to other people. If someone consider himself nazi, comunist, anarchist, oligarchist, satanist........has the right to be it. The problem begins when in reason of your belief you do something wrong to other people. In this particular case we are talkin' about nothing at all, not even ideas! So tell me how it is possible, in the year 2018, to cancel a tour for no reason. People should choose the concert to attend and the one to avoid. This is not right. Things have gone too far... Anyway, I'm gonna play "Testimony of the ancients" right now! Patrizio I'm with you and your music.

Racism is today being thrown away as a label on pretty much any person that is less politically correct than what the left wants you to be. The term has kinda lost its impact and gravity, and unfortunately the real racists can now get away with it. I remember one of the many speeches that Denis Prager had when he mentioned how he would get demonized by marxist teachers before holding speeches in universities in colleges, being labeled racist, xenophobic, bigot or anti-Semite (although he is a jew) and only when teachers got to know he is a jew, they retracted the anti-semite accusations, but maintained all others. Conservatism is the new real rebellion today. And it is needed more than ever. Back to the values that made the West great once upon a time.
