Candlemass - 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus' Vocalist Returns
Swedish doom legends Candlemass have shared some really surprising news today. The vocalist Johan Längquist, who performed on the band's Epicus Doomicus Metallicus album and left the band shortly after that, has officially rejoined the group as a member. It has been 32 years since Längquist sang for these legendary doomsters. He is replacing Mats Levén, who has been with the band since 2012.
The band commented on their Facebook: "We wanted to find our way back to the roots of Candlemass, back to the soul and essence of the band. Johan Langquist is back and we hope this will give us some new energy and kickstart the heart of doom again. We don't know if it will last 10 more years or even 5, but if it will give us just another year of having fun and playing the music that we love so much, it will be a blast! The circle is closed, Johan is back!"
The band also stated that this is happening right in the middle of recording a new album, and more news will follow soon.

Best music related news of the year. Just thinking back to Candlemass with Johan at Roadburn 2011 doing EDM brings back tears to my eyes and produces goosebumps all over.

Candlemass has Always been a Leif Edling band and given how mediocre the last couple of Candlemass albums were musically I am not getting my hopes up. But the great thing is they'll be touriong with Johan, so, we will have the best vocalist they ever had back at the helm live.

I'll hold my breath until they release some track with him or something like that as a preview. Just because a band has a powerhouse vocalist at their helm doesn't necessarily mean that'll automatically translate to them writing good music.

The self titled work is one of the better reunion albums I know of. If they can meet that match of quality which I'm sure its not to impossible then I will be fine. Well it;s not like we were expecting like this anyway but hey surprises like these get us all fantasising dosen't it?

Great news! Though Mats is a great singer I enjoy listening to, he simply does not fit in there (anymore). I feel he was the weakest part of the last two EPs. I do not have any expectations about the new album but still Johan's style is more fitting to Leif's music to my opinion.

Sad and good news, Mats is good vocalist, has been involved in many rock acts over Sweden, band suppose to do some full lenght whit him. Live I dont care who sings old songs Messiah, Ozzy or Per Nobody. Band never will reach old glory because Leif cant write music, eh is involved whit Avatarium what is OK, and some Doomsday Kingdom, he whould focus on candlemass. Only one side projevt helped main band write good album and it was Toumas Holopainen who did it. If people will hear good doom, they should get out of hight school and follow current metal scene, because many new bands can put out much better albums as latest Candlemass,. Live, well if they come close to Artic circle and visit Jan Lind home town(we can say so) Älvsbyn, I would go and listen them there. hmmm midsummer at midnight.
