Mayhem - Announce Re-Release Of 'Grand Declaration Of War'

Norwegian black metal titans Mayhem have announced the re-release of their 2000 album, Grand Declaration Of War. One of the band's most experimental outputs, it features many unorthodox sounds not found on many other records. Combining black metal, progressive music, hip hop, avant-garde, electronic, it wasn't exactly well-received by many fans. The album has been re-mixed and re-mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios in the UK.

You can listen to a few samples of re-mastered tracks in the video below on Season Of Mist's YouTube:

The re-release will be out December 7th on Season Of Mist, pre-orders available over here.

I have one already, so no thanks
But i like the idea of re-releasing if it is hard to buy it

GDOW is one of their best albums, safe for the debut. None before them in the black metal scene ever attempted such a successful experiment. Sure, the album does not sound that great in studio, but live most of the tracks are killed. Check their live albums when they play songs from this one. They are sublime.

Ordo Ad Chao was the real success as experiments go. Even Rebel Extravaganza was more successful and that was a year earlier than this.

I LOVE GDOW. It's a far more darring experiment that people give it credit for. And I think this remix is a terrible idea. The drums got way too high on the mix and it sounds a bit more muddy. Pretty sure they tried to please the old-school fans who wanted a more organic "more trve" sound but this album is meant to sound clinical and cold!

An experiment, yes, but personally i wouldn't call it successful. I enjoy the rest of their material but I've always had a hard time with this one.

About the live performances, you might be right, i can't talk about that since I've never had an opportunity to see them live.
