Darkthrone - Premiere New Single 'The Hardship Of The Scots'

Norwegian duo Darkthrone premiere the first official single from their upcoming seventeenth full-length record Old Star. Below you can stream "The Hardship Of The Scots" from the effort, ahead of its May 31st release through Peaceville Records.

The band's Fenriz commented alongside the song's premiere: "HI ALL OF YOU! As you may know we have a new album coming out (I am not on social media at all anymore so I don't know what you've seen or heard so far) and Ted said that this time our fans will hear a new song first. So guys here it is - our new track, "The Hardship Of The Scots" and since Ted and me always write our own songs, one song could not fully represent Old Star, but let's start with this one.

"Normally the journalists and other scenesters get to check out new albums 2-3-4 months before fans get to hear it, but not this time... you are first!"

I don't get why these Norwegians, specifically black metal musicians, change their style of music, sometimes so drastically! The first time I noticed was way back with Susperia.

I don't get why these Norwegians, specifically black metal musicians, end up all playing this style of music! The first time I noticed was way back with Susperia.

What's to get? They played black metal for many many years, then get bored of playing it. They can play whatever they want. Music is not their main source of income, so they don't have to give a damn about critical reception and record sales.

Which style do you mean? Because this particular track has hard/heavy, doom and black.

For newer Darkthrone, im quite happy with this one. They're always good when putting some doom into their music.

They usually go to the industrial \ electronic \ avant-garde side of metal so Darkthrone are not so typical in that matter

I hear with my little ear lots of Celtic Frost. Especially during the first half.

I think it's a bloody good track though.

Really like the blend of 80s heavy/doom metal and black metal. Also Ted´s vocals seem different, in a good way.

Looking forward to the whole album.

"Let me put my love into you, Satan"
They stole that riff from AC/DC. Who does that?
Can't say I didn't enjoy, though
