Megadeth - Dave Mustaine Has Throat Cancer

Some shocking news has just been announced by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, through the band's Facebook page. The legendary frontman just revealed that he has been diagnosed with throat cancer and has already started receiving treatment, while the doctors are optimistic about the outcome. Read the full statement below.

Official Facebook statement:

"I've been diagnosed with throat cancer. It's clearly something to be respected and faced head on - but I've faced obstacles before. I'm working closely with my doctors, and we've mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.

"Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year. The 2019 Megacruise will happen, and the band will be a part of it in some form. All up to date information will be at megadeth.com as we get it. Megadeth will be back on the road ASAP. Meanwhile, Kiko, David, Dirk and I are in the studio, working on the follow up to Dystopia - which I can't wait for everyone to hear.

"I'm so thankful for my whole team - family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more. I'll keep everyone posted. See you soon,
Dave Mustaine"

We wish good luck to Dave and a speedy recovery.

@zgarol
Is throat cancer related to singing heavy metal? Ok, I guess two dont make a trend.

Get well soon for sure! Metal guitar god. Rest those vocals and find a new singer and focus on shredding. Best for Dave and us fans. No offense, but he's never been a good vocalist.

I do agree that he's not technically very good vocalist, but I would say his voice fits their music. And even if his voice isn't irreplaceable, I still see it as a signature Megadave feature as he has done the vocals on every album.

No offense, but he's never been a good vocalist.

Whilst it's kind of tasteless to talk about quality elements when someone has cancer, I agree: he's easily amongst the worst vocalists of all time.

Pls do not fight on the quality of his vocals in these sad times. Remember after 4 decades and 10 albums what is the point in rating Dave the Vocalist?.. Let him recover and sing again.
