Mercyful Fate - Return For Live Shows In 2020

Mercyful Fate fans around the world can rejoice, as the legendary band has announced on Facebook that they will play a number of European shows in the summer of 2020. The setlist will contain material from the band's iconic self-titled EP, their classic Melissa and Don't Break The Oath albums, as well as some brand new songs! Read the full statement below.

"NEVER BREAK THE OATH

"We will be playing an unspecified number of concerts throughout Europe during the summer of 2020, including COPENHELL. It will be the 9 lineup, featuring:
Hank Shermann - Guitar
King Diamond - Vocals
Bjarne T Holm - Drums
Mike Wead - Guitar
with Joey Vera on the bass while Timi Hansen is away.

"We asked Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning) to fill in because he has a very unique style and sound playing with his fingers, much like that of Timi Hansen. This is very important, since the set list will only consist of songs from the very first mini LP, the Melissa album, and the Don't Break The Oath album, plus some brand new songs written specifically in that very same style.

"This will very much be Mercyful Fate as we were in the very beginning, except for a brand new major stage production. See you at the Ruined Bridge. Stay Heavy.
Mercyful Fate"

I wonder if denner just doesn't have the magic anymore? his guitar solos sounded weak compared to Shermanns on the denner/shermann album

Fuck me sideways, this is the most hype announcement ever. If I can get to one of these shows it'll be up with Isis doing a one-off reunion show in LA that coincided with me travelling the US

And one little detail: the ''9'' line-up featured Sharlee D'Angelo on bass, and not Timi Hansen

My thoughts exactly.
My first ever live experience was seeing MF in 1983. THAT was the classic line up.

Timi Hansen announced that he is battling a form of cancer, thus the reason why he is not joining the band.

In other words, wondering why Denner is not in the line-up. I hope someone spills the beans about this. About time MF reunited. King is already in his 60s, was pondering for a while when is he planning to revive the band and give it a proper closure.

True man, and I prefer to see MF with him (not that I've got something against Sharlee, of course), I was just referring to the comment ''It will be the 9 lineup''.

Denner is playing with Shermann now in one band, so it must be friction against Denner and King - thats why Michael is not a part of this
