Alestorm - Release New Single And Video

"Treasure Chest Party Quest", the new single and music video from Alestorm, has been launched. Taken from the band's upcoming album Curse Of The Crystal Coconut, coming out on May 29th via Napalm Records.

Alestorm on the new video: "Oh wow! We tried our very best to make a video that would alienate as many of our fans as possible. I think we succeeded! This song is about giving birth to yourself, selling out, and driving awful Yugoslavian cars. All the classic elements of pirate metal!"

After looking at the way they were dressing and their songs when they released their last album, I knew they would eventually stop writing lyrics about pirates. Honestly, good for them, now Bowes and the band have more creative liberty.

Hold it! 3 of their songs on their new album have the word Pirate in them
Not to mention, majority of the other song titles also reference pirate themes in some way

That was a pretty terrible song and I say this as a big Alestorm fan. They've already done this "shitface" party songs like every album and it just wears you out as a fan. Plus that song was quite mainstream and that ruined it even more.

Well, maybe they will not abandon the theme completely but they will definitely become more varied in their lyrics. It seems to me that Bowes is not the kind of writer that wants to write about the same theme and with the same style all the time. Alestorm had already been experimenting with some of their songs and Gloryhammer's second album was a big departure from the first one (from singing about medieval fantasy to space battles). Again, I think this is a good thing, as it will make Alestorm's new album different enough to feel fresh.

I love this song, it has a sped up "Kings Of Metal"-style opening verse, a very catchy and fun chorus, a synth solo, a great breakdown, it is bloody awesome overall. And the video kicks ass.

The video is like... modern day pirates. I steal all your trasure, drink all your alcohol, and have fun kind of thing... I guess it's some analogy and perhaps a parody on rapper's lifestyle. It still kinda sounds pretty Alestorm-ish pirate metal, which is great, and the chicks in the video are as usual, super hot. Although I found their partying songs great and fun in a demential humor kind of way (they are hilarious), I'm also hoping for more serious kickass songs,... Because imo, nothing will beat their old more serious songs like Leviathan, Over The Seas, The Quest, Black Sails, and such.
