Obscura - Three Members Quit The Band

German tech/progressive death metal purveyors Obscura announce guitarist Rafael Trujillo, bassist Linus Klausenitzer and drummer Sebastian Lanser parting ways with the band due to musical differences and move on with their new group, named Obsidious. All of them would like to thank Steffen Kummerer, crew, business partners and especially all loyal fans all over the world.

Steffen Kummerer: "Firstly, I would like to thank our former members Rafael Trujillo, Linus Klausenitzer and Sebastian Lanser for their dedication during the last years. Now, 2020, a new chapter for Obscura begins with entering Woodshed Studios this Summer to produce our sixth full-length record, and the first album for our new label Nuclear Blast. The new lineup will be revealed shortly."

Rafael Trujillo comments: "I'm really thankful for the amazing experiences I have made over the last couple of years and all people who have supported me on that path. Leaving something behind opens new opportunities."

Linus Klausenitzer states: "No one except Steffen has been in the band longer than I have, so you can imagine that this was not an easy decision for me. However, for us, this is the beginning of a musical journey that I'm sure you will enjoy."

Sebastian Lanser adds: "Time has come for me to move on and pursue new musical adventures. A big "Thank You" to all our fans around the world for the amazing support - You Rock! I am sure we will meet again at some point in the future."

After many line up changes, including key members departing, Steffen Kummerer has gone on the record to state that he will be changing the name of Obscura to Obsolete.

This is crazy. Literally nobody can stay in this band with Steffen for more than 9 years...

Is this a belated April fools? Moving from Obscura to Obsidious? Seriously? That said it's not like it's a new thing for the band to happen... Klausenitzer played with a bunch of former members in other projects as well.

I don't think anyone has real beef with Kummerer, cause they always talk nicely about him as far as I've seen.

He's gonna pull a Chuck Schuldiner.

Eh, I'm not so sure, dude. My money is on him being the problem. Didn't you hear about what happened between him and Fountainhead after Akroasis?

Exactly. Let's be sure not to misinterpret political correctness as niceness... they are, after all, professional musicians...

If I remember correctly, Tom Geldschläger left the band on the same differences these 3 main members may have quit -- Kummerer really hold them musically. Perhaps why he ended up destroying 2 bands in 10 yrs.

Oh I don't doubt that he's the problem, just that it's a serious problem, not just some disagreements. And no I didn't hear about that.

Maybe he can go solo and just do his own thing? You can use session/live/guest musicians if you're always parting ways due to differences xD
Oh who am I kidding... Obsidious part was hilarious, specially when you know it kinda means obsessional. Are we sure this is not a joke?

Obscura is almost as much a solo project for Steffan as it is for Michael's Opeth and was for Chuck's Death. I don't see this as a big problem unless he completely veers the sound away from their core.

Just do a quick Google search for "fountainhead kummerer" and you'll see some interesting articles. Regardless, I believe Kummerer to be the reason behind all the departures over the last few years. I'm not saying anyone is in the right or wrong, being that we don't have the full story, but there's something clearly going on behind the scenes here.

I don't disagree with this. Diluvium was a solid release from them so I don't have any doubts with Kummerer's writing ability. I'm just glad Muenzner, Grossman, and Klausenitzer still play together in other projects.

I did and it's kind of ambiguous to me (a lot of dead links to "proof" too), but yeah it definitely seems like Kummerer is pretty full of himself. No news there though I guess.
