Moonspell - Part Ways With Drummer, New Album In The Works

Gothic metal institution Moonspell announce the departure of a long-time drummer Miguel "Mike" Gaspar, who has been part of the band for almost 30 years. At the same time, Portuguese masters confirmed that they are already working with a new drummer, Hugo Ribeiro, on the new music. The next full length offering will be recorded with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano between September and October this year, and is planned to land in stores via Napalm Records in the beginning of 2021.

Statement from the group: "Moonspell hereby informs that Mike Gaspar is no longer our band member. The reasons of this split, as accorded, will remain in between the parts involved. We ask that privacy is fully observed.

"Moonspell now enters a new cycle and are already working with a new drummer Hugo Ribeiro (not family related with the singer). Their new album, provisorily referred to as H, will be recorded with the producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Ulver, Ghost), between September and October this year. It will be released via Napalm Records on the first semester of 2021."

Ofcourse one will be more curious about the reason why they split with Gaspar... but I think Ribeiro could bring some new fresh air in the band.

I'm quite interested in what Hugo can add to the band in terms of writing

Sad to hear about it, but it's rare for a band to go for so long with the same band members, like Moonspeel have been doing, sooner or later some change is expected. And as always, excited for the new album.

Sounds like there may be some drama. But at least they are keeping in between themselves instead of starting a soap opera.

30 years is pretty long and I understand that fans can feel sad. The same happened with Dark Tranquillity not so long ago but I'm thankful for these decades and wish them the best!

The Melting Snow

One of the rare bands along with Paradise Lost that had a consistent lineup without drama. Sad to hear of the split. I hope the new guy brings new energy. Looks like the band went mellow after the release of Extinct in 2015. Just a half-album released since then.

Don't really agree, 1755 is a full, conceptual album --- and IMO a really good one, one of my favorites. I understand however, due to the nature of being all sung in portuguese, maybe is not much attractive to the international audience, but then again I don't speak any german and Rammstein never ceases to amaze me.
