Darkthrone - To Release Expansive Box Set In April
While their new album is already completed, the mighty Darkthrone and Peaceville Records announce a very special - a massive box set, titled Shadows Of Iconoclasm. This deluxe set, fully approved by the band, includes previously unreleased material, content from their personal archives. Among others it will feature: 6LPs, 7" single, 4 cassettes, a DVD & 60 page hardback book, posters and art prints. It will be officially released on April 2nd (pre-order). More detailed below.

? The 4 x cult Darkthrone demos presented on cassette tape format with their original art & layout.
6 LPS plus 7" featuring:
? A newly remastered 30th anniversary edition of 1991's Soulside Journey
? The original Goatlord instrumental rehearsal/album - specially transferred and restored from Fenriz' own original tape.
? Live in Esbjerg, Denmark 1990 - For the first time on vinyl.
? Live in Oslo November 1990 - taken from a new digital transfer from the original master tapes from the Bootleg TV archive. Previously unreleased.
? Live in Riihimaki & Lahti, Finland. Darkthrone's 1991 Finnish tour dates for the first time on the vinyl format.
? Tracks from Oslo 1989 Bootleg TV appearance on 7" vinyl, including the Celtic Frost cover, "Visual Aggression".
? DVD featuring a new digital transfer of Darkthrone's November 1990 Oslo appearance from original master tapes, as well as their Finnish tour date appearances, plus bonus footage from Oslo 1989 & a previously unseen track from their September 1990 Oslo gig, when Cadaver & Abhorrence were in support.
? 60 page book with a large collection of band photos, plus text covering the early years of the band as featured in the 'Black Death & Beyond' book, including additional text for this release, plus bonus chapters compiled from rare Darkthrone titles.
? Band promotional photo print replica.

Worthless box set, was this really done by Peaceville? Because it looks more like Nuclear War Now! made it, they are specialized on creating box sets full of bullshit material.

Written by Maco on 28.01.2021 at 15:38 Not completely sure as even by the cover alone as well as some contents, this release has some genuine things going for it. Box sets seem to go either way in aesthetics and content that is viable. This time this one has shown me how more live shows they performed and recorded (unless paying off or stealing back bootlegs) than previously known. Lots of people back during Soulside Journey's release seem to cherish this out of their discography too.

If they are doing this with Soulside Journey, imagine what's going to happen in the next three years when we'll have the 30-year anniversaries of the true classics. Peaceville will find the forgotten tapes of Fenriz farting during the recording of A Blaze In The Northern Sky and they will put them in limited edition wooden box, digitally remastered, and with liner notes of Fenriz himself explaining what he had eaten before each fart.

I wasn't expected so much hate in the comment section about this box-set! If you don't like it - don't buy it - move along babies and stop crying! This release is dedicated for serious collectors and Darkthrone fans. Especially for those who are interested in the early period of Darkthrone music. Personally I think it contains lots of cool stuff!
