Slayer have won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the song 'Eyes Of The Insane,' beating out Lamb Of God (Redneck), Mastodon (Colony Of Birchmen), Ministry (Lies, Lies, Lies), and Stone Sour (30/30-150).

This was Slayer's second Grammy nomination, the first being in 2002 for the track 'Disciple' (from "God Hates Us All"), also in the Best Metal Performance category.

Slayer, currently headlining a North American tour, did not attend the Grammy's presentation, but vocalist/bassist Tom Araya had this to say about the win from his hotel room in Columbus, OH: "Jeff [Hanneman] and I put a lot into 'Eyes Of The Insane' so we're thrilled that the Grammy voters took the time to listen to it, and then vote for it. We're out here on the road and we're all really, really happy."

I am going to the concert in Columbus, OH Tonight, yeaaaahh!!! I will congratulate them personally,
matthioso - 12.02.2007 at 21:03
Well, if you compare Slayer to the other bands that were nominated, they just had to win, no doubt.
but why is SOAD nominated in the category hard rock while stone sour is presented as metal
Icarus' Dream - 13.02.2007 at 01:06
Way to go Slayer! Eyes of the Insane is good stuff.

I find it very hard to believe that Tool didn't win the hard rock performance with Vicarious
nefrit - 13.02.2007 at 07:59
lol +1 imperial_ice was there such a grammy award ? =) well yea among those nominees slayer is the right choice, cong. thrash kings
Doc Godin - 13.02.2007 at 08:44
doesnt surprise me, they were definitly the best out of the nominees listed, and there isnt many mainstreamish bands that it wouldnt be an upset for them to win.
acid_burn - 13.02.2007 at 12:45
@ matthioso : 'Cause the Grammys are given by a dozen of assholes who have no idea what metal music is?
Xtreme Jax - 13.02.2007 at 15:45
The exact quote from Jeff on the War At The Warfields dvd:

Jeff: "Fuck the Grammys, fuck you"
Interviewer: "So dont care at all?"
Jeff: "Dont care. Its a big joke to me,"
Interviewer: "You going?"
Jeff: "Im going, fuck yeah Im going to run a muck and hopefully get in trouble, maybe arrested..... Fuck the Grammy."

I find it kind of funny that Jeff was the one to say something on their Grammy win, on the dvd Tom seemed quite opened minded about it.

Out of the nominations they were clear winners for me, so congrates to the mighty Slayer
Beto Gtz - 14.02.2007 at 02:54
everybody knows that slayer should not have won that, their time has passed, and their new music really sucks, lamb of god ys way better than these guys, prooven once again that the grammys doesnt know anything
Syk - 14.02.2007 at 04:05
matthioso: Good question.

Beto Gtz: Lies.
BreadGod - 14.02.2007 at 05:00
This is very good. Slayer definitely deserves recognition for their work.
Dangerboner - 14.02.2007 at 05:18
I think Ministry deserved it more, but Slayer owns so I'm happy. The video for that song is pretty cool as well.
~Nagash~ - 14.02.2007 at 17:20
Slayer rules!!!!!
BitterCOld - 14.02.2007 at 20:23
lmao. I bet they feel so 'validated' now that they've won a grammy.
lenesu - 15.02.2007 at 23:27
Yes, I agree with you that grammy sucks but still Slayer desearves to win, at least for their past , their comeback with Christ Ilusion or simply because the other nomenies are just horrible(not mastodon).

Slayer got what they rightfully deserved, lol lamb of god, i mean come on man, if it wasnt for slayer lamp of god wouldnt even be here. As i said again slayer got what they rightfully deserved. Redneck isnt even that great of a song they have done better but slayer>lamp of god any day.

Comment by Kerry King:

Guitarist Kerry King recently told Sean Piccoli of Sun-Sentinel.com that the group's song "Eyes of the Insane" — for which it recently won a Grammy in the "Best Metal Performance" category — is "one of the poorest representations of us on the record," meaning Slayer's 11th studio album, "Christ Illusion". He would have picked "Jihad" — like "Eyes", a track written by singer-bassist Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman.

King also has doubts about how well members of the Grammys' parent organization, the Recording Academy, know his band's music.

"Realistically, I think people on the academy who vote pick the household name," he said. "And that's what we are."

You can find the whole article here.

They definetly deserve it, and by the way Beto Gtz, Lamb of God sucks ass! They aren't good enough to clean Slayers shoes let alone beat them in best metal preformance.
