Alestorm - Enter The Studio

As announced on the Napalm Records website, the Scottish buccaneers have not been idle the past few weeks. Besides an occasional raid and plunder, Alestorm entered the studio to work on new material. The hard work has paid off. Pirate Christopher Bowes has already confirmed the delivery of hymns in the traditional Alestorm style: sing-along refrains, keyboard melodies, heavy guitar riffs, and a full mug of rum! All of that and much more will be found on the upcoming album "Black Sails At Midnight", which will be unleashed upon corsairs and landlubbers in the spring of 2009. Hoist the sails and polish the grapnels.

Weee 1st posts. I hope this album is better than the last one. it was ok but it would be nice to see all the songs as good as captain morgans revenge on this one. I Hated 'huntmaster' and 'nancy the tavern wench' but the others were ok. will probably be fun whatever they do though.

Yes, cd burnings. And shaking my head in total amazement that so many people lap up this sort of crap. Oh yeah let's play folk metal cause that is the flavour of the month and everyone will like it no matter how crap. But thank God I am sure that the folk metal hype will be over in one or two years because of the extreme amount of shit bands in that scene. Thus leaving us with the true greats... SKYCLAD. That band is far superior to anything else in the folk metal scene.

Yes, like what happened to thrash as well. But imo thrash has more staying power due to most of its lyrical content which is way more political...

They should really put people who write such crap against a wall or something. On second thoughts, this whole band deserves a bullet either way.

Alestorm seems like a great band. I've heard their song Captain Morgan's Revenge and I enjoyed it. I want to hear more.

Which can get out dated and it doesn't make up for the very crappy and soft production and lame vocals and very repetitive music such as Sacred Reich for example.

Yeah sure, Thrash is more repetitive than Folk metal :
If I had to choose between Sacred Reich and Alestorm, without a doubt I'd go for Sacred Reich any given day.

for me it is okay Ensiferum, Korpiklaani and such are repetitive but they are still miles better then crap bands like Exhorder and Sacred Reich. choosing between Alestorm and Sacred Reich is like choosing between shit or shit, so neither gets my vote.

I was afraid I was going to be alone...then I remembered, you were one of the people that hated Alestorm before it was cool, so you beat me to it. I'm really looking forward to this album, mostly because hopefully it will help people get bored of the band after they release the exact same thing again (if they don't, then hey, I'm open to a lame band redeeming themselves.)

Honestly, any semi-talented folk metal band that varies its rhythm structure can be considered one of the best.
So I agree with Marcel, Skyclad are the best i've listened so far...and the only ones coming up with something so logical.

I think folk metal bands such as Korpiklaani will eventually die in a couple of years but the influence will remain in certain sub-genres.
