Dream Theater - Working On Their 10th Studio Album

Prog Metal veterans Dream Theater are currently wrapping up work on their tenth studio album. The band commenced work on the as-yet untitled album - their second for Roadrunner Records, following up 2007's "Systematic Chaos" ? in October of last year.

Drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci are once again producing the CD, while engineer Paul Northfield will mix the record. Roadrunner Records plans to release the album in early summer upon which the band will immediately embark on a world tour to support it.

I can't say that I'm looking forward to it because I wasn't too impressed with their last release although there is talk about it being better than their last album...

Mike Portnoy said on his forum, ""Imagine a DT album with "A Change of Seasons", "Octavarium", "Learning to Live", "Pull Me Under" and "The Glass Prison"....all on one album..."

Mother of God. Bring the awesome.

Isn't this what Systematic Chaos sounded like? Besides, it doesn't really sound like Mike was being too serious while saying this.

"So yeah, it's going to be like Another Day, Killing Hand, Peruvian Skies, Limelight and Firth of Fifth, all topped of with pepperoni and gummybears."

I am already planning to camp out in front of the store to buy it. I will come wearing my "Mike Portnoy ate my baby" shirt and probably will play all of Six Degrees on harmonica then do an interpretive dance to a medley of 6:00/The Spirit Carries On/Surrounded/Yste Jam.

I'm so there with you, dude. I'll just repeat "I know all about the honor of god,
Mary Jane" over and over for four hours straight.

Im just sayin, their new album wasnt all that special compared to how each album previous has differed, and if they're coming out with another so soon, well, we'll have to see how it sounds but if they're flattening out just to please the fans, they're no different than dragon force. And it may just be my tastes and opinion on the matter but I mean another world tour? jesus take it easy and put some time and effort into the album; make it brilliant.

All of the rest of their albums have only been 2-3 years apart too, with Six Degrees and Train being less than that. How is this any different than those ones?

I respect the fact that every album is different and i love them all (with the exception of some songs on FII) but Systematic Chaos seemed heavy for the sake of it in places. Having said that it was not a let down in any respect - i think it's just because previous releases have been so damn good we expect masterpieces EVERY TIME with no exceptions. This album seems like it will recycle a lot of old material at least for the final part of AA which i guess their hoping will satisfy those fans who want the old DT style back. But i'm looking forward to it - Special edition surround sound bring it on!

Last one was great. At first, I hated In the Presence of the Enemies Parts 1 and 2 but now I listen to
them almost everyday. The only song I couldn't get hooked right now is The Ministry of Lost Souls.

Anyway, I am expecting that this 10th album will be another Dream Theater epic.

Cheers!

I can't wait! Ever since reading Lifting Shadows, I've been in a perpetual Dream Theater kick, so any new material would be kick ass, plus I'd love to see them play live again!
