My favorite out of these would be Dark Fortress, a German (I think) band, my favorite album by them is Stab Wounds. I reccomend them to everyone!
Oh and please keep on topic and try not to turn this into a genre battle.

I voted for Other. My current favourites are a tie between Nagflar, Secrets Of The Moon and Keep Of Kalessin. Dissection were the masters of the genre back in their day but lose points for their mediocre comeback album, all of that anti-cosmic crap and having a murderer as a leader. All of them fall under "other" anyway.

even if you have three of my favourite bands in this poll, I have to agree that they are too mainstream right now. I'm talking about Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir and Rotting Christ offcourse. so because of this, I will vote Graveworm, the definition of good melodic black metal!

Dimmu borgir is Symphonic black not Melodic black. I don't vote, since it is a tie between Chthonic and Catamenia for me. I love the Tiawan sound of Cthhonic and Catamenia's ice cold sound just as much.

putz.. three bands that i would choose are not on the votes.. Anorexia Nervosa (absolutly the BEST ONE IN THE GENRE), Catamenia and Old Man's Child... well... with the option i vote on Graveworm.

Damn.. I've voted the other day without posting, and now I don't know where my vote went lol But I guess for Dimmu Borgir. Their early works are great IMO. I'm also into Illnath.. they are a very impressive Melo/Symphonic Black band with only 2 albums. I can't wait for their new album. I'm getting into Graveworm now. I started with Collateral Defect and so far I love it.

I guess I really don't know what classifies a black metal band as "melodic." I'm not going to vote because I'm not sure of the parameters, but if I was going to take a crack at it, I'd probably go with Emperor.

I voted other. I don't know what I'd choose exactly, but there are so many better bands than these. Ceremonial Castings, Dissection, Lunar Aurora, Vinterland, Nokturnal Mortum, Emperor, Limbonic Art....... The list is fucking endless.

Incomplete, definitely incomplete list... Unaccurate, too: CoF and Dimmu were Symphonic BM, not Melodic. As a matter of fact, those bands were labelled as sellouts about as soon as they became more melodic and less crrrrrrrshshshshshshsh...

Rotting Christ takes the crown. Come on guys, all the other bands are after them  EDIT: And let me just add this, it's not just later Rotting Christ that is melodic black metal, since Thy Mighty Contract and Non Serviam that they are melodic, so that should be rephrased.
