Poema Arcanus are my favourite band from Chile, and also among my top Doom Metal acts...

I folow them since 1996 pr something, when they released their first Napalm Deathish raw Death demo "Underdeveloped", then added a few oom touches with "Innocent Shades" and in 1999 saw the light "Arcane XIII", a haunting masterpiece very beautiful and poetical, with some of my favourite lyrics and a simple, minimalist music that embraces...

In 2002 we got Iconoclast, one of the most original albums I knowe of the genre.. lots of progressive elements added, very dark and with ceremonial touches that embrace... also very varied, and it's probably the Doom Metal album I had most listened to throughout my life...

Last year they released The Teluric Manifesto (which I reviewed for MS), and it was once again a bif change, and although I didn't like it at first it's an incredibe grower... very free-styled, mixing mellow and melodic elements with very angr and nihilistic death, and it has a very negative feeling overall...

Poema Arcanus are great and my top doom metal band, and fav chilean band, and what can is say, thay are most poetical band in earth, specely lyric for song "female Poissen" and all lyric are so Poetic, deep mand I feel like Condor in Andes when listen poema Arcanus, amazing band, but unfornity i hawnt seen them in local stores

I have the Iconoclast album but rarely listen. I'm not a fan of the vocalist but he did grow on me while listening to the album and by the end I didn't mind his style. I very much enjoy their music but rarely feel like listening. It just isn't memorable to me I guess I'll give them another listen tonight... you're right, very unique stuff!

well, it's true that this band is really hard to digest... their only album that gives itself more easily is Arcane XIII but Iconoclast and specially The Teluric Manifesto need a lot of time to grow...

Unlike Lyrican, I'm a big fan of the vocalist Claudio Carrasco, he has great clwan and harsh vocals and the lyrics he writes are awesome...

and I agree with Kariasakis, "Female Poison" is their most poetic song...

funny thing, I knew personally Claudio Carrasco this year and he told me that he regrets to had written songs in the vein of Female Poison, kind of mellow and with romantic lyrics hehehe... well, I still think is among their best.

Yes this is most poetiacal band in planet and from so Exotic metal countr how chile, i feel Andes in them music, seems thay had inspirated from colod winds and some lolyness in far far in andes.

When I discover band in www.doom-metal.com I just know thay will be specieal, I saw pic of band and when i start vreading lyrics I fall in love whit band and I wish i coud see tham live

nice to see that someone from such an "exotic" country like Latvia like so much a band from such an "exotic" country as mine hehehe

well, about the inspiration, I don't really think their inspiration is in that nature, despite the cliché imaginery some people has of Chile thinking that we all live above the mountains... the Andes are there, we see the snowed mountains all the year from the city and after one hour of car drive we're in the glaciers, but there's not an "andean way of life" or something like that... This year, I intereviewd Claudio Carrasco (vocalist/lyricist) for The Metal-Observer and asked him about inspiration, and well, he told me that his main influence source is Santiago, the city in which we live and that has NOTHING to do with nature and cold winds, but clouds of smoke, over-population and lots of stress... Poema Arcanus lyrics and music used to be very poetic and somehow ceremonial, but now everything in what they make is truly negative, "The Teluric Manifesto" is one of the most nihilist and hopeless albums I know.

btw, there are some other very good Doom Metal bands in Chile, specially Mar De Grises (they had became very popular), Uaral (ambient/folk/doom like Empyrium, awesome) and Bitterdusk (Traditional Doom)

Those otter doom metal bands I had hearn name nothing more ;(

the female member was called Roxana, she used to play keyboards but was fired because she had serious health problems so she couldn't tour with the band and practice all the time... then came another keyboardist called Michel Leroy, that was along with Igor Leiva the composer of "The Teluric Manifesto", but Claudio Carrasco told me that they had big creative problems, because while Igor Leiva (which is the gitarist and founder of the band along with Carrasco) wanted to stay Doom Metal like always, Leiva who just came into the band wanted to impose his ideas and he was into progressive rock and hippie bullshit, and that's why the last album has some really freaky jazzy almost improvised parts... He told me that in the original model the songs of the new album were Doom Metal as always, but in the 3 years that took the whole composition they evolved to something absolutely different, with some non-metal parts and other Death Metal songs with an unleashed fury, but still being Poema Arcanus... Is a difficult album to get into, but I find it brilliant specially the songs "51% Dead" and "Circos"

And well, answering your question Claudio Carrasco is not married, and for what I know him (that is not so much) seems like he hates women hehehe I don't really know his personal stories with bitches but he really seems to dislike them, and that's specially notorious by the nicknames of his MSN (right now is something like "cumshoting your filthy cunt") hehehe you know, it's the typical man that likes sex but hates girls (I usually feel like that).

About living in such a big city, I love it... it sucks if it takes you more than one hour to go from one place to another, specially without car, but I couldn't live in a small town... I'm 100% an urban man

I had to ask Claudio Carrasco thorugh MSN... he told me that it was recorded in two places: Estacion Central, that is some place close to downtown Santiago and a beach near Concepcion, in the South.
