Welcome Home, because well... it's a ballad about insanity. That was pretty weird back in teh day.

I like all of them but fade to black is the one i like it the most

I put The Unforgiven but honestly, for me it's a tie b/t that and Fade to Black. I love them both!

oh, and I don't really consider One to be a ballad. I think it's wayy to heavy. Out of all these that's my favorite song listed but I definitely don't think it's ballad material.

It has to be 'One' for me =)

Difficult to choose.... I think Fade To Black only because it brings me some really nice memories from my teenage years........

Welcome Home (Sanitarium) for me. Musically better than Fade to Black, IMO.

I personally prefer Welcome Home (Sanitarium), just my opinion.

I voted for Nothing Else Matters. It was the first Metallica song I ever heard.

If "One" is considered a ballad it's also a nice one.

I personally think Nothing Else Matters is an overrated song. I voted for Fade to Black because it's simply amazing musically and lyrically.

All are good, but Welcome Home has a special air to it.

I love all of these songs, but at the moment, I'm really digging Nothing Else Matters. I haven't really heard it in a while and I almost forgot how beautiful it sounded.

No doubt Fade To Black. Easily the most well written of all of these, and in that regard One is in 2nd place, Welcome Home in 3rd and the boring ones can tie for the 4th place participation ribbon.

Although, I do believe One tells a very interesting story. The concept of it is so wicked and it is executed well, maybe it would be the best if it wasn't based on a movie. By which I mean, if it was an original idea I would give Metallica more credit.

One or The Unforgiven.

It's close, but nothing beats Fade to Black: lyrics, riffs, and solo are perfection... and that transition to the fast galloping riff ("no one but me can save myself...") is divine!

"One" is one of the rare Metallica tracks I still somewhat care about, so I'll go with that
