What on earth is this? Liquido are an alternative rock band that seem to shamelessly play this pop/rock combination as if they are following a mould that had been crafted to form the perfect commercially viable alternative band. This mould has been used before, mainly by popular American bands however - and frighteningly enough the metal label we know as Nuclear Blast have taken Liquido under their wing and are releasing the band's fifth album "Zoomcraft".

So why? Well Liquido have somewhat of a chunky following in their homeland of Germany, and even though some other bands that have used the same formula have produced dire results in the past, it does not mean necessarily mean Liquido will make the same mistakes, or does it? Well the answer is yes and no.

First couple of tracks "Drop Your Pants" and "A One Song Band" seem to take the form of American bands such as Limp Bizkit or the Bloodhound Gang, the latter of these songs being a "cool" and "hip" little number with Fred Durst style rapping to tickle your taste buds, or whatever else you like tickled. We soon, and quite frankly gladly realise that there is more to Liquido than providing a German alternative to American bands though. Diversity is one thing that "Zoomcraft" is not missing out on, although all elements used on the album lean towards a commercial audience. A spacey and electronic theme emerges and weaves its way throughout the album in various places and forms, either as a way to add more layers to a song, or in a more explicit sense to make a song a little more dance-like and bouncy for all those popular alternative night clubs out there, just take a look at "Pop The Bottle". Lyrics as you may be able to imagine looking at these song titles are a very cringe worthy at times, especially during these more up-beat songs.

"Zoomcraft" has a little bit of everything, there will be something in here for most people, "Beyond The Turmoil" catches the ear in a positive mood as the vocals and whole feel to the song is a little reminiscent of Australian pop group Savage Garden, also "Way To Mars" catches a nice slower tone.

For an album released by Nuclear Blast, this is not an album you would expect to hear, but given some time and attention, "Zoomcraft" is not the car crash that it would first appear to be. There is no escaping that this is a very commercially oriented album, but it is one of good quality containing lots of different sounds and styles to keep whoever may be listening, listening. From alternative rock and the infectious form of punk rock popular these days, to a little bit of rapping and the bass of dance music and even further to the sounds of pop music in the days when pop music was still worth listening to - "Zoomcraft" has a bit of everything. Of course this album should be approached with major caution, but if you feel somewhat inclined to give it a shot based on this run-down, then chances are you may be pleasantly surprised with this one.

yesterday, I went to the concert Liquido did in Botanique in Brussels. It was really good, they're actually the only alternative rock band I really enjoy listening. Afterwards I talked to all the members of the band (very nice people btw).
Zoomcraft may sound a bit commercial at moments, but it certainly isn't. It's an album written with pleasure and is actually a mix of their old and newer work. Then again, this style of music always has sound more popular than hard rock and metal.

very nice review
