Something I am wondering for some time, before I start, I want to announce this have nothing to do with metalstorm or behavior of people here (well, there were few examples though), it is about religion in general, actually, about anti-religion, some kind racism, precisely hate speech and religious intolerance. Also, I would like to say, I am not religious, I am an Orthodox Christian by birth, never followed or practise that religious since or any other.

Now to the point, in every day life I see a lot things and contradictories that are pissing me off, whole idea for a thread came when I saw Dutch movie Fitna, you probably already heard about it, it is about Islam, scenarist was accused for hate speech while movie is called racist?! (since when religion and race are connected) and hateful. In the movie, they put strong anti-muslim accent, doesn't matter does I support or not whole concept of the movie, to sum it up, man that made a movie was literally impaled in the media because of the whole project.

Also, we have a bunch of movies that never ever got permission to be shown on tv about anti-judaism, (and please do not invert my words, anti-judaism and anti-semitism is not one the same), they were immediately shown as racist and hateful in the media, not rarely people were even imprisoned for making them.

Now, we have a bunch of anti-Christian movies on tv, that no one never ever bash as racist, that are shown daily on tv, no one ever question religious correctness of those movies, truth, mostly Christian by birth made those movies, but again, as someone declare himself as an anti-Christian what difference does it makes?

Question is, WHY is it ok to bash on Christianity and it is NOT ok to bash on any other religion and immediately it is characterized as hateful speech?

Examples in music, Ukrainian band Nokturnal Mortum had both anti-judaistic and anti-Christian lyrics, no one ever question anti-Christian part cause that's ok, but everyone bitch about anti-judaism?! What's with that?

80% of you are openly anti-Christian, and bash on Christianity on this forum and real life most probably, same as some metalstormers I know, once, I said to one member in real life damn they want to build stupid mosque in the middle of the town and he looked at me like that I said Gods knows what and told me don't be a racist (again?!), but never ever he said anything to me when I dozens of times said that Cathedral in the center of the town should be burned? (yeah, a little of trve metal behavior..)

Once on this forum member said to other member stop with you judaistic crap, I remember that very well, post was deleted and he got warned for racism again, but I also saw DOZENS of time members saying similar things like stop your Christian crap to other members and no one ever got warned for that.

Why is it ok to bitch about Christianity and it is blasphemy to bitch about all other organized religions (especially Islam and Judaism)?!?

Looks like a double standard to me...

Driving by this thread... did it just occur to me, or did someone write masturbating and having consensual sex is a filthy sin?

I find it to be so. It would be useless to explain why, but I, myself, am convinced, scientifically, spiritually and logically.

Yep... in fact, it's ok to jack off and watch porn (because, come on, we're men after all, and in a certain age, it's completely normal to be curious about those things)
Jacking off and watching porn becomes a sin when it starts to occupy a significant portion of your everyday life. It's not healthy (neither physically nor mentally) to dedicate too much time to it. In the end it's just a waste of time. I'm not saying you should go now and masturbate to a video of some chicks having shower together...
It's true, tho... that losing your energy (ejaculation supposedly takes a fine amount of proteins out of your body) is not a good thing if you do that too often. As the Chinese put it "every ejaculation shortens your life expectancy" and that's why also many masters of martial arts avoided all kinds of sexual encounters because abstinence enhances physical abilities. Also, Caesar wrote about the Germanic peoples that they found it shameful for men to have sex before the age of 21 because it was important to become strong males beforehand. After all, sex demands energy. And I personally am proud and feel good if I can "donate" a part of my "energy" to a girl I like. Which means that jacking off is indeed a waste of time and energy. It's a lot better to use all the free testosterone in order to enhance your results in sports.

Good quote. I like that. Thanks.

Since my last post, I've decided a new policy; To not try to make others change their views to suit my beliefs. I've found out that religion is pure "personal matters".

That's true. Religion is a very personal matter and you can't determine whether a person is better or worse just because of his religious beliefs.

PS. Try to learn from me. When you quote several people at once, please arrange all of the text into one post rather than having a separate post for each quote. That, unless you're interested in getting a high post count fast...

If there is one policy I'd advise you to stick to its what you've mentioned there, a good one for any person to have. And don't worry I didn't take it seriously.
Remember that you are free to discuss your beliefs, but yes if there is a belief someone else holds which is contradictory to yours you can't claim that it is plain wrong. You can always say that according to your own faith it is considered incorrect, but remember to keep your new policy in mind.

That is a good policy for sure. But I think it's human nature to try to convince others that his beliefs are the best ones. (Hell, I'm afraid I'm doing it myself...)
I find it very annoying when people try to convince others either to believe or not to believe something.

Yes, those are the exact reasons and many thanks for stating them.

Your statement is true. I'm regarded by others as an ethical person, but I don't think that this is a result of religion. Maybe I'm tricked by thinking that my morals are from a religious source. Again I remember the thing my father always tells me: There is everything in each group or sect of people. Good atheist, bad atheist... Good muslim, bad muslim... Good christian, bad christian... We judge people by their morals. Religion is for God, and it's not right that we interfere in others' beliefs.
(Isn't it funny how I change my opinion every 5 seconds? You mustn't blame for that...)

Your father says wise things mate. If it's about religion, it's like supporting football teams. You can't judge a person according to his preferences. Some people like chocolate ice cream, some like vanilla ice cream. But in the end they like ice cream...

Hehehehe, reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons which actually has a pretty nice message:

Quote:
Because in the end, aren't all religions the same? They tell us what to eat, when to pray, that this lump of clay called Man can somehow shape himself to resemble the divine. But we can never attain that perfect grace if we have hatred in our hearts... So let us celebrate our commonalites. Some of us don't eat pork. Some of us don't eat shellfish. But we all eat chicken!
- Homer Simpson

And yes indeed... Our differences mean nothing when being compared to what we all share as humans.

One thing I find rather interesting is when people say that all religions are basically the same. It seems to me that one making that statement has not really ever studied world religions much.

Much the same for me. I find it really weird because many religions claim themselves as the ONLY TRUE religion.

Because how can all the religions be the same and each religion renounces the others? That's how I understood it...

But that is my point; they are not all the same. If you actually study them, they teach very different things.

What I am finding a lot these days is "Churchianity"...this is the incorrect way of getting religion out to the main populous...I see these people all the time at Dundas Square here in downtown Toronto...they teach nothing but intolerance because they are very intolerant people and very ignorant...I am talking of course about street preachers..they make me hate religion...they contradict themselves a lot...they never know what they are talking about...they make people like my friend Dane here on MS look bad because these Churchianity people are usually the sole figureheads that outsiders see...and then people thusly never do any proper research in response and get on people like Dane's case all the time...

My flatmate said several times that he fears muslims because they decapitate "unbelievers"... Oh yes... and Iran is an empty desert with camels and nukes hidden in the sand... any evidence of, let's say, hot blonde local chicks is automatically considered fake or "Why haven't they stoned her to death... because that's what they do, right?"

I have a very good friend who happens to be muslim... and religion has never been a problem for us. And we can wish merry Christmas to each other without worrying about it being "politically incorrect"...

We don't need pseudo-problems which just alienate people and make them hate each other's countries and cultures.

If I am a Christian and live in a country with a culture and history based on Christianity, then all the traditions and heritage we have is to be respected. Same thing is when I go to a shrine of another faith. Doesn't matter if it's a mosque or a buddhist temple, there's art and beauty and the essence of the cultural heritage in all of it. It would be wrong to flush it all away and either replace it with a soulless "secularity" or have it supplanted by a more "correct" religion...

@Ernis: You know I typed "Chruchianity" and not "Christianity", right? They are two different things...that IS the double standard...
