I'm finally on vacations, and with so much free time, I decided to start watching One Piece, with its more than 600 episodes.
Everybody says this is a masterpiece and stuff, so I'm watching to see where the thing goes...
So far it's not so appealing, but still not bad.

My favorite (long) Anime with no other show near its complexity and brilliant plots ... be patient and you shall be rewarded

You were right, it became stupidly addicting hehe. It keeps getting better, and I watched no more than a third of it yet.

Well, the main difference is that the 1999 version stopped in the Greed Island arc, while the 2011 version proceeded further.
Also, the 1999 version has older graphic design (obviously) if compared to the newer one.
The bad about the newer version is that all the 2011 version arcs which are also covered by the 99 one tend to occur faster. The greed island arc ended in about episode 75 on the newer version, while it took 92 episodes on the original to reach its end. This occurred for two reasons: First the 1999 version is a bit more detailed, and second because it also included filler episodes.

So, summarizing: The 1999 version loses to the newer one in almost everything except for the fact that it's a bit more detailed, exploitative...
In order not to miss anything, the natural reaction would be to watch the 1999 version until the end of the greed island arc, and then start watching the newer one, but you would see lots of fillers, and also would miss the fight of Hisoka x Kastro in the heaven's arena arc. The fight was omitted (and I wonder why?) in the 99 version, while it happened on the 2011 one.

A way of watching most of the anime without getting filler and without losing anything would either watch just the 2011 version, or watch the yorkshin and greed island arcs on the 1999 one and all the rest on the new version. I watched the original version on TV, I didn't like it that much. The story and characters are good, but the action was meh. Also, that Nen/Ten/Zetsu explanation was way too confusing (maybe it was because of the dubbing and untranslated words?).

I never watched anything dubbed, but I remember that I also tried the 99 version before I liked hunter x hunter, and it felt a little "meh" as well. But then I watched the 2011 version and it rocked, because it walked so much faster and straight to the point than the 99 one. After I rewatched the 99 and started liking it somehow.
You probably should try the new version. If you don't like even that one, then you can give up on HxH =P

I admit that I haven't seen Fate/Zero yet, but I am aware that it's actually a prequel to Fate/Stay Night, which was a Japanese Erotic Visual Novel game made in 2004-ish, which got it's own anime adaptation (which I also haven't seen yet, but I understand it's quality is somewhat debatable). It was developed by Type-Moon, and they have fair amount of material that has become anime series might be worth your time (though, again, I haven't seen them, yet). I was able to read the manga adaptation of Fate/Stay Night, but Tokyopop didn't publish more than ten volumes, and scanlations have only gotten to a few more beyond that, but I liked what I read.

I apologize if this seems a bit out of the blue, but I figured I could provide a bit more information about it in case you (or someone else reading this thread) hadn't gotten around to researching the show.

First of all, you have to understand that one extremely popular style of video game in Japan is what they call the Visual Novel. Essentially, they are video games that play like reading a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book, where you read a section of story, then answer a multiple choice question (usually making a decision between two or three options) that has an impact on future content of the story. Given that this is a video game, they can make these things pretty long and robust, especially since they can skimp on graphics by simply showing a lot of still, static images with the dialogue. The stuff's been around since at least the 80s.

Naturally, they made ones with pornographic material, known as Erotic Games, or Eroge, which have been around for about as long. There's still a story, but quite often the player is "rewarded" with the occasional erotic image or animation (usually with the quality of an animated gif, though I suppose they might have gotten better over the years; like I said, not my department, really). They existed, being mostly made for Japanese PCs, and didn't really make too many waves.

However, in the early 2000s, they gained a considerable amount of popularity, mostly titles made by Type-Moon and Key Studios, quite often getting a cleaned-up versions on the PS2 and a manga and/or anime adaptation. (Just as another example of their popularity: remember Caramelldansen, that silly song and dance gif that was everywhere roughly 2007-ish? The original animation came from the opening animation for the eroge Popotan.) I always knew what visual novels are, but you surprised me a bit when you said that the Fate series are erotic. But Fate/Zero is different, there are no erotic scenes at all. I've reached episode 21 and have seen nothing of this kind (it ends in episode 25). But still, I don't think it's for kids (too much violence).

Oh, okay, sorry. I think I understand what your question is now.

The original Fate/Stay Night PC game was an erotic game. I don't think that any erotic content made it into the anime adaptation, nor in the prequel, which is what you're watching. I'm simply saying that the franchise started as an erotic game, but has since made more consumer-friendly versions of the story (PS2 version, manga, anime, etc.). (At least, that's what I'm assuming. I'm sure there's someone around here who could correct my mistakes if I've made any).

I finished One Piece and now there isn't really much to watch.
I'm just following Hunter x Hunter and Hajime no Ippo. And I just began to watch a short anime called "Psycho Pass".

My favorites are The War and then Impel Down.
And they're saying it's better, I know a couple of spoilers and things are gonna go down

I'd like to say that Sword Art Online was a really entertaining watch for me. It's only 25 episodes and explores an MMORPG community who is trapped in a virtual reality game, with only one means of escape - to beat the game. And if you die in the game, you die in your real body as well. It's interesting to see what people will do in a digital world if their actions will have very real consequences on others. So naturally there is lots of combat, both with and against players. There is a lot of romance as well, mostly it was done well, occasionally too cheesy (also ecchi at times), but somewhat fitting to the material still. The art was excellent and music captured the moment real nicely.

The only real problem that I had with SAO was the half-way point between the story arcs. I'd rather not go into too much detail, just to play it safe. But despite the flaw, I was satisfied with the conclusion and I recommend the series, especially because it's a short show. There are chances of a sequel, because there is more story written for the universe, but I think it hasn't even been made into a manga, so I can't imagine when or if.

Has anyone watched Kill La Kill? It's pretty great if I say so myself...

I'm going to start watching Nisemonogatri tonight, I enjoyed Bakemonogatari so I'm looking forward to it.

She's pretty cool, especially in the most recent episode, but the only thing about her that bothers me is her voice. It annoys me. :/

I finished Code Geass a month ago, best anime I've seen so far.. I haven't seen much though I found out about anime a year ago.

I'm currently watching Fairy Tail. I only heard about this show recently, but I've been really hearing a lot about it. I enjoyed it at first, but am starting to get bored... It isn't really much more than the generic action/adventure anime with yet another arrogant impulsive male protagonist who makes up for his stupidity with strong morals and gets by due to his more sensible companions balancing out his recklessness. But it has its moments and all the cute funny weird characters with cool powers made me keep watching.

I think that in order for it to be interesting it kinda lacks a plot. Y'know the big plot.
Anyway I watched it until about episode 120 or so and stopped because it was the last one on the time I watched it and then never followed again. Rumour says it became a lot better after that. I heard it had a tournament or something like that...

I'm currently around episode 145-150ish... I have that awful feeling of being bored and not wanting to watch anymore but at the same time, wanting to keep watching just to see what happens next, like maybe they'll actually get a good storyline going or introduce some awesome new characters...
