I thought it'd be a nice idea to post your favorite covers. Please, if you can post only one and try to find a picture of it. Also say why you like it. Thank you.

Ok, I couldn't find another way, but this way it shows it. Happy posting.

(anyway, best album is LMHSYF, but it's cover is kinda weak )

I think the cover is good enough... Way better than Lost Tales and Dol Guldur that seems to be some kind of copy-paste picture tbh.

My favorites would be Oath Bound [Beautiful indeed], Lugburz, Minas Morgul and.... C'mon! If you liked Summoning covers I can't understand why you missed this one.

Took a while for the Summoning and Slayer covers to get posted. Some very good choices in this thread, though. I particularly like the sort of Romanticist covers, like the Summoning ones. And the Windir one I'm posting.

Time to add my input:

For me, it would have to be this:

Dan Seagrave made the creature, and Par Olofsson did the background. Alone, they are fantastic artists, but together, they made something that was truly awesome.

Black Sabbath's self-titled debut, from 1970, had a fantastic cover IMO. Arguably, this could be considered the first 'proper' Metal album, too. I find it quite bleak and haunting, and perhaps reflects the nature of some of Sabbath's early music. Doom and gloom!

I've actually seen a picture of that house in the background from a different angle, but I forgot where I found it.

I forget if I or anyone else has posted this, but Gates' album covers are awesome. This one obviously reeks Conan which is a sure win. I also love the cover for Suffer No Guilt using the piece "Revenge of the Viking." Their latest is good too.

The stuff posted by Góral is my favorite type for album artwork... Beksiński is specially amazing.

Also, Debemur Morti's mysterious 100th release also has some sick artwork by a dude called Néstor Avalos.

I've made a list of my favourites right over here. As you can see, I'm not a fan of the whole cold/grim/bleak style of a lot of the ones above and many of my favourites end up being covers that most MSers hate :x

Out of the ones in the link, I think my overall favourite has to be the art for Impellitteri's Eye of the Hurricane. I think there's just something about all the white that's really striking and beautiful.

On a related note, Necrolord held an art exhibition at a festival I went to recently, which was pretty breathtaking, I have to say. Huge versions of In the Nightside Eclipse/The Gallery/The Forsaken/Ensiferum albums/Storm of the Light's Bane/etc that you could buy, take home and hang on your wall, along with smaller signed prints and backlit box frames with his album art inside. Sadly, I didn't actually buy anything because I'd already bought way too much at the merch stand, but it was still really cool. He's one of my favourite album artists and I hadn't even realised it until then.
