I scarcely listen to melodeath nowadays outside of Dark Tranquillity but I recall 4 or so years ago when I first got the internet I went searching for new metal bands (with no idea where to look I might add) and Withering were one of the first bands I came across (along with Daath oddly enough). They'd just released their only LP to date 'Gospel Of Madness' which I fell in love with, the first song especially. Anyway shortly after I my harddrive died and I lost it all until the other day when I remembered about them after seeing they'd released an EP. They still sound pretty good!

Anyway, to put them in perspective they play epic, melancholic (bordering on doom sometimes) melodic death metal, much like Insomnium and early Amorphis. Their music consists of epic leads and harmonies to conventional gruff death metal vocals. As I say if you liked early Amorphis and often wondered what they might sound like if they hadn't abandoned their sound then you should give these guys a go. Their new EP is pretty good indeed but I still prefer the echoing melancholy of Gospel Of Madness.

Here's their Metal Archive page which is rather difficult to locate:

Here's their Myspace page. I recommend the song 'Northern Breeze'. Ch00n.
