Does anyone else like this "jump-up" music? It's great for social drinking and 'waking up'.
Me being from The Bahamas (a caribbean country) should be very familiar to this, but honestly, I only just getting to it and it's new to me as a genre. I mean I've heard it before from friends, but only rarely. I was really exposed to it fully while watching Tempo (a music channel available only in Caribbean countries, it plays reggae, soca, dancehall, R&B [sometimes]).

Soca's mostly Trinidadian music, But Barbados has somewhat of a scene too.

It doesn't require that much talent and it isn't very "deep" in terms of content but, lol, i find it puts me in a good mood. Even though it's not Bahamian, it makes me feel 'at home'.

P.S. sorry America, i REFUSE to call it "world music" lol. Genuine Caribbean people DO NOT EVER call it "World Music"

Thanks so much for the reply!!
Most first-worlders think that Caribbean music is just reggae (which is mellow), but actually Soca is so much more typical, it's FASTT.
In The Bahamas we have "Rake N' Scrape" music (which is like slowed down soca with bahamian accents ont he vocals instead ov trinidadian accents).....but I haven't learned to like my country's music yet . Trinidad's a Barbados' Soca music is better and more exciting

Here's the song used as an anthem for Trinidad And Tobago's national team in World Cup 2006:

and here's the harrrdest, fastest, most intense Soca song I've ever heard, the artist is from St. Lucia:

this is Machel Montano....one of the leading artists in Trinidadian Soca, he just did a concert here in my town weeks ago:

annnd here are two of some of the top soca videos right now on on Tempo the first is a Trinidadian artist, Shurwayne Winchester and the second is from Barbados, he is Lil' Rick:

...u don't have to thank it's always nice to learn and get to know new music

...well i just finished checking out the videos and i must say i didn't like it that much...i find it repetitive and well imo there's not much difference between those songs, it has like the same rythm and beat...it's quite sticky lol...that second song is fast!! i think this is the kind of genre that can cheer up maybe a party or something like that hehe...i can definitely picture some of my friends dancing it
