Morbid Angel is simply the best, their first 2 albums are better then almost all DM

where could i find about those "Cemetery" you ve mentioned?

I'm gonna have to go with Autopsy. My favourite old-school dm band by far (maybe second to Asphyx but I don't wanna be lame and vote other). I consider Severed Survival to be the one of the best dm releases of all time. It's just dark, dirty and heavy as pure fuck.

wow, weird that someone mentioned Demilich .. i like that band.. not much ppl listen them. but anyway, they cant be the best death metal band cuz they have only " 1 " album. an album witch is verry unique i rly like it and i recomend it to everyone, but still .. its not enough

Yeah, it's a shame there was only one album, but I would rather bands release one classic album and then quit, instead of releasing 10 albums that keep getting worse. Anyway, Demilich's demo material is also excellent!

Incantation. One of the most consistant DM bands and my personal favourite because of all the blasphemy and the doomy parts... they are underrated and I always like to support the underdogs. I know I'll get ripped apart but I think Death are overrated. They're not the fathers of DM, they are ONE of the fathers!

Death is the band releasing the first "officialy" DM album. no one can deny that. so that's why they are called fathers. they have been influenced also from other bands (possesed, slayer, kreator etc) but this is absolutely logical.

I've heard Cemetary and I don't think they are even equall with MA. First of all they differ in the style. MA is much faster, brutal and also "paranoid". their production also is better. generally speaking I don't believe that the whole swedish DM bands played as much paranoid, fast or technicall as MA did. also they have a much larger discography. MA have 4 top-noch DM albums and also 3 more which are very good. Cemetary for example have only 2,5! Black Vanity is not a complete DM album.

yeah i don't say that they are not good; i just say they cannot be compared with the "mostrer" called Morbid Angel!

Nile and Death. All the other bands on that list suck, big time.

A tough choice indeed, Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Autopsy and Nile all come very close as all are great bands. But i think for their versatility my vote has to go too Death.

Nile and Death. They are both the most original sounding bands on the list.

but seriously, I'd probably go with Opeth...i know, i know, not pure death, but the element is there

I was shocked by Metalstorm's lack Autopsy! IMO they are the best overall metal band on the planet. Reason for this are: Chris Reifert's garglin' grunts and demolishing drums , Danny Coralles' and Eric Cutler's raging riffs and slippery solos... (lol @ alliterations )

Illdisposed, Imo they really stand out in the death metal scene.

Why not ? ... i mean;

Death = melodic death, not .. u know.. death metal
Nile = nile have their unique style, they're definitely an AMAZING band but they're not the standard/average deathmetal
Cannibal Corpse = love'em, but lately they're boring as fuck.. they keep making the same album each year with different song titles
Morbid Angel = the definition of old-school death metal ... one of my all-time fav. bands, but they dont represent (modern) or Brutal death metal ...
Obituary = great, but not the best
Deicide = you wish
Autopsy = meh, they're OK

But dying fetus ? ... technical as fuck, powerful, badass, creative and unique, memorable, and each album is a deathmetal masterpiece, and they're still not mainstream much and they're very underrated

look man, death metal can be played also without blastbeats. Death is the first Death Metal band (ok fo some the 2nd, 3rd or what you want but surely one of the pioneers). they never played melodic death metal. their riffs where always "Deathy" and only in symbolic they had many melodies due to progressiveness. i dont think that their first 4 albums can be called melodic. also individual thought patterns is not melodic. i love dying fetus -especially their mid-era but:
Death has more variety in sound from album to album
Death didnt produce average albums (war of attrition and and the 2nd album of DF are really average IMO)
Lyrically they are a bit equal as both started from gory lyrics and then turned into politics etc.
Generally DF had 2 monster albums IMO and some other good ones but ALL Death's albums are magnificent. You cannot deny that LEPROSY is pure Death metal right?

Okay man, first of all, i LOVE "Death" and Chuck is my personal guitar hero .. and YES they're pure old-school death and not "melodic" on their first few albums (they're not the first death metal band however, "Possessed" are the first.. but u know.. its like calling "venom" or "celtic frost" a "black metal" band, u know ? .. they were surely the influences on the creation of black metal.. but when u talk about black metal nowadays we talk Mayhem, Marduk, and shit like that.. same applies to Death Metal ... listen to Morbid Angel and Nile.. are they in ANYWAY similar to death ? nah, they're much more "brutal" and "death metal" .. i think Death, Possessed, Obituary are great bands who helped in the creation of death metal and shaping it and making it what it is today, but "modern" death metal is way much more brutal and louder.. it's the most extreme metal genre afterall (nevermind grindcore and goregrind, and other "grind" genres..etc)

i think Dying fetus is the "standard" or the "prototype" on how todays death metal bands should be... all of the "classic bnds" like death and morbid angel still hold their place as pioneers... but they're not just as "death metal" as "todays death metal bands" such as dying fetus

If Stop At Nothing and War of Attrition where as great as Killing on Adrenaline and Destroy The Opposition are i'd probably compare them with the 2 bands i've mentioned but now i dont. not because they are a worse band but because their discography is not that consistent.

i agree, and if we "have to" rank these bands, i think Death and Morbid Angel should score higher than Dying Fetus.. at least for their role in shaping death metal and being pioneers .. i was just bummed that DF got only ONE vote and mine was the second .. this is VERY unfair to such a great band !

Check out how many voted that other bands should run with the title.
Surely it's a life-long debate, but for one Dying Fetus bores the hell outta me.
