Name some albums that you think are truly excellent but seem to have been forgotten. Keep it to albums from 1999 or before.

Main one for me is Obtained Enslavement - Centuries of Sorrow. Often comparable to Gorgoroth's Antichrist but came out two years earlier. More epic and adventurous than 'Antichrist' but not as memorable. Fantastic album though. This band seems to be overlooked and even when they are mentioned people seem to be more interested in the second and third albums but the first one is fantastic.

Any more?

Regarding one of the previous posts, I wouldn't call Outworld's s/t classic since it came out in 2006, but it is definitely overlooked.

CRIMSON GLORY Crimson Glory
CRIMSON GLORY Transcendence

Seconded.
I also wanna mention anything from Savatage's golden era, and far too many NWOBHM thanks to Iron Maiden, like Grim Reaper, Angel Witch, Blitzkrieg, Satan, ect.

This thread is losing its way and then some.

Quite ridiculous eh? Or maybe the language is changing and overlooked means: We haven't built a statue of it yet.

Been forgotten does not necesserily means its so underground nobody knows it... ya know ?

If you're going to mention "Death" and "underrated" in the same sentence then this is the only Death that should be accepted:

Now that's what I call mighty overlooked: Ahead-of-its-time punk from 74 that only got finally released on 2009.

Conception - Parallel Minds
Green Carnation - Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness

Those are two incredible progressive metal albums that everyone should know and cherish.
I feel that too few people do, yet I don't think I can really call them 'forgotten'.

Deathwish - "At The The Edge Of Damnation" - A fantastic British Thrash album that you can't even buy on CD. Great vocals, guitar playing and songwriting.
Deathrow - "Raging Steel" - Not exactly unknown, but not mentioned nearly enough for an album of such end to end quality.

Pestilince - Consuming Impulse

how is that an overlooked classic album?
Imo, it's the same as saying Death - Leprosy is an overlooked classic.

Well, I guess I may have overlooked who exactly I'm talking to here. I mean I certainly don't hear much about Pestilince on the whole these days. Bands like Death, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Deicide, Suffocation... Those are the bands that everyone seems to talk about when it comes to classics. That being said, leave it to the true metalheads on this forum to call me out on my being out of touch. lol

great and indeed overlooked album. Finally got an original copy of it last year. Had had it on hometaped cassette ever since 1991.
