Well well a thread for the lovers of Bachus's favorite liquid, like me i'll guess i'll start by saying what my favorite wines are, all hailing from Romania(in no particular order):

Lacrima lui Ovidiu 5 years white - excellent taste, very VERY FUCKING sweet, will get you really drunk instantly

Prahova Valley Feteasca Alba - semi-sweet, excellent

Murfatlar Dry Muscat - great taste, no-nonsense wine

Don't hate me for giving an honest opinion

Sincerely,

Wine n00b

Who says I hated anyone? : )

Plus, I am by no means a wine expert... wine is often just a good booze for me, especially when it accompanies a hearty dinner...
With beer it's another case, I used to drink beer more when I was younger because "Everyone drinks beer! Beer is metal, heavy and deep..." and yep... wine was unofficially "For girls/grown-ups/old people/upper class..." plus the fact that wine is expensive in Estonia and the only wine that was cheap, was an awfully bittersweet fortified wine or some local berry wine... The taste was awful and we, the kids, bought it only because it got you wasted more fast...

I just finished some Pinot Grigio just now. My mom didn't like it so she let me finish it.
I might start getting back into white wine.

I recently really enjoyed some Israeli red wine, Yarden Mout Hermon Red. Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot with some Cabernet Franc. Fairly full, rather fruity. I recommend it, one of the better mid-priced wines I've had (10? a bottle here). I dunno about other Yarden wines, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.

I never understood why some high-end wines cost more than one person could earn in a lifetime. Is the difference in taste so fucking huge? I never tasted a finer wine, I mostly just buy cheapest ones to get hammered, but seeing the price on some irks me.

Just came back from my grandmother's house (thanksgiving dinner).
I tried a French wine, Lamothe Parrot - Mellow Reserve......
I think it could be my favourite red wine yet

seems like you buy it for the wrong reasons. wine is not meant for you to "get hammered".

Ya I'm no alcohol specialist but I always thought wine was meant to be enjoyed, like a glass or two at most.

Returned from store with two more bottles of Nero d'Avola. I love this wine. I've been having some other good red wines lately as well but Avola is by far among the best ones with it's almost opaque black-red appearance, aroma and full taste...

She's kinda right though, of all the alcohol I've ever got hammered on (which is a lot), wine has the nastiest side-effects the day after.

I've heard horror stories about the headaches caused by excess wine. Then again, excess beer is good at making you puke.

Having a Barbera d'Asti right now. I used some of it to cook the dinner this evening and it turned out rather nice. It's a good red wine. Previously I had Garda Cabernet, also a good one.

Hmmmm, well this seems like a thread worth bringing back.......

A few weeks back, while cashing out at a liquor store, I was purchasing some Minuty. The cashier said that if I like Minuty, I would also enjoy Whispering Angel (which is just slightly more expensive). I finally bought me a bottle, I think it's a great recommendation, though I still prefer Minuty. I tried mixing Whispering Angel with the new Angry Orchard Rosé and it turned out excellent, I call it, "The Whispering Frenchman", haha.

Now that I'm 32, I find I prefer Wine over Beer (although I still enjoy beer once in a while). It's easier on my stomach and I've just developed a taste for it. Don't know much about it other than I'm enjoying trying different wines. Currently I really like Apothic Red (California wine...quite the mixture, on the sweeter side probably because it has a lot more sugar). And a lot of Australian Wines are really good.
