I really love this band, they are one of my overall favourites at the moment,

i have heard In The Arms Of Devastation, Shadows & Dust, Serenity In Fire and the live album Northern Hyperblast, which i didnt like though,

i think in the arms of devastation isnt nearly as good as Shadows And Duts or Serenity In Fire, but i still think its a quite good cd, i see the other two as masterpieces of deathmetal though

I've heard 3 or 4 albums from them and I can see where he is coming from...on the newer albums. Prophecy and Sorcery definitely do not have a nu-metal vibe at all. I enjoyed Shadows and Dust, but I also thought that it had a little bit of a nu-metal sound to it. I don't mean that in a bad way though, considering it is my favorite album and I don't like nu metal.

A nu metal sound?

You aren't agreeing with him at all! You're saying something even more ludicrous. He mentioned the newer albums (of which he apparently has not given complete listens) sounding as though a nu metal band was trying to play death metal, what you are saying is modern Kataklysm sounds like Coal Chamber, and that's simply laughable if you ask me.

Sure they haven't changed their sound in over half a decade, they've accessed a much more commercial and melodic side, and even have some classic MTV-pop song structures, but none of that makes them comparable sound-wise to the likes of Korn or Nothingface.

I listened to a couple of songs by them, and it sounded like what would happen if a nu metal band tried to play death metal. Nothing really worth looking into.

I usually don't react at childish posts, but now I have to. "I listened to a couple of songs by them". Ok, so you don't know them, you didn't listen to them properly and you didn't see them live.
It seems to me you just listened to three youtube or myspace songs and made up your mind.

You could've educated him like the post above yours did, instead you opted to make assumptions without contributing anything to the topic at hand. Speaking of childish posts...

Back on topic, in my humble opinion everyone who tries to get an impression of Kataklysm should be obliged to listen to "Sorcery" and not only their works with Maurizio Iacono on vocals. People don't even know what they're missing if they think they've heard it all after listening to a dozen of newer songs.

I agree with the pre-Maurizio vocals. Everyone should listen the caveman mentally-deranged vocals of Sylvain on early albums, specially Temple of Knowledge, to get a good pict about what these guys can do.

But I also agree on the fact that on more recent albums (I'd say last 2) they got a tipical modern plastic death metal approach that makes them very very dull

As a matter of fact I've purchased "Temple of Knowledge" on eBay today. Never really got into as it's just toooo much over the place for me. Maybe things will change after listening to it on my car stereo.

Yeah, when I read my post again, I realize it isn't my smartest and most constructive.

I really enjoyed the album Prevail, but these guys have alot of really great albums other than that. Shadows and Dust, Serenity In Fire and In The Arms of Devastation are also some of my personal favorites. I didn't like their newest album as much though. One thing I enjoyed about the previous albums was the very rhythmic drum parts (I know there aren't many other kinds, but my point is that the drummer wasn't just 16th notes on the double bass the whole time) and as a drummer you can probably appreciate that. However, in Heaven's Venom the album seemed much more straight forward. I use that phrase in the apparent lack of a better term that doesn't make me look ignorant. I can already tell I have started to ramble so I will finish this up by saying that Kataklysm is an excellent band worth a good listen. I would start with either Prevail or In The Arms Of Devastation, but you really can't go wrong.

Actually I agree with what you said, Heaven's Venom is not my favorite album by the band. Clearly Serenity In Fire is one of their best, great songs from beginning up till the end. Great band.

Only song I've heard by them. I don't know if I really like them, it's like seems too slow or something. I don't know. I'd need to listen to more to form a better opinion of these guys though.

It took me a while to get into these guys, but I must say.......now, I feel like their music really comes in handy when you just wanna blast chaotic, extreme music out loud! The next time I go to the US or Canada, I might buy one of their records.
