What is that one CD you have, that is not metal, that is one of your most favorites?
One that you believe belongs in everyone's collection.

For me it is Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
I love how the entire album sounds and feels, David Gilmours playing is full of emotion.
The song Wish You Were Here touches me every time I hear it, takes me back to when my father passed away...
Dark Side Of The Moon may be more popular, but for my ears, this is one of the greatest albums ever.

What is yours?

Should this be in the General Metal forum?

Anyway, my favourite probably is... "Power Windows" by Rush? Yeah, many Rush fans will bash me for this. But I have always been a sucker for keyboards and I just love everything about that album. It's catchy and at some parts very very beautiful. Sure, it's not at all as Progressive as we want Rush to be. But here they did something special and it worked out fine for me.

"Power Windows" by Rush?

ech...Big Money is such a horrible song...there's just a lot of cheesy keyboard stuff on that album generally...the album before Power Windows (Grace Under Pressure) was a better "sucker for keyboards" album in my opinion...

Possibly Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here or Meddle, also Ágætis Byrjun and () by Sigur Rós and Signify by Porcupine Tree, there's a lot of non-metal albums I like(mostly Post-Rock and Prog Rock), but if I had to choose, those will make it.

Im going to go with Franco un-American by NOFX. The album was just amazing. more than half of the songs were good and i mean im not too big of a punk fan compared to a metal fan.

you mean "the war on errorism"? it's an incredibly boring and bland album by the band. waaaay too much nostalgia tunes. their best works were "Ribbed" and "White Trash, Two Heebs, and a Bean"... "Pump Up The Valuum" had some decent tracks as well.

this thread should be moved, and likely will be.

couldn't let the NOFX thing pass without taking a swipe. will respond at length after it's been relocated and i've thought some of the best non-metal through.

either rock or general music forms. good thread idea - always good to expose strict-metalheads to good outside influences.

From my "real cds" collection it would be probably soundtrack to Eragon (movie sucks, but the music really does not) and then one compilation of irish folk songs, but i gave it to my brother as a christmas present last year, so it is not really "mine"

and from those albums on my hard-drive...something from czech folk musician Jaromír Nohavica...either "Tři čuníci" (The Three Piggies), which are more funny and happy songs, or "Doma" (At Home), which is live concert containing more of his "serious" (and beautiful) works

Yeah, the album is kinda cheesy. And "Grace Under Pressure" is probably my second favourite Rush album.

Hum, this changes often.

I guess, right now, it would be Boys for Pele by Tori Amos. Her Under the Pink is also perfect.

Akira Yamaoka's Silent Hill 2 soundtrack. Portishead's Dummy, which is the quintessential trip-hop album. Hounds of Love, by Kate Bush. Souvenirs, by the Gathering. As for this year's releases, the best ones were Fever Ray's self-titled, Hong Kong, Baby! by Pintandwefall, and PMMP's Veden varaan.

Another one I play a lot is Cheap Tricks debut album.
They were a local band where I spent my early teens and turned me on to harder rock.
I've even seen them twice, and of course... I have a Rick Neilsen pick from a show.

Oh, it's impossible to choose, as I listen to a ridiculous amount of non-metal music. According to my 5 stars album on RYM, I'd say King Crimson's Red, My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, Kashiwa Daisuke's Program Music I, John Coltrane's A Love Supreme and GY!BE's Lift Yr Skinny Fists would make a wicked top 5.

I'll go first and foremost with the Vagrant Story OST by Hitoshi Sakimoto. As any OST it has its horrible tracks, but most of it really dark, beautiful and creepy stuff. Many metal bands that consider themselves 'dark' are just bland compared to this one.

Less important, but still really good, would be
Ludwig Von 88 - Houlala 2 - no they're not racists, but punks doing stupidly fun lyrics (in French)
Bérurier Noir - Viva Bertaga - I would kill to be able to got back in 1989 to see this punk band live
Hawkwind - Warrior On The Edge Of Time - tripped out space prog rock. What else?

Nice choice! Easily one of the greatest video game soundtracks (to a hugely underrated game). I actually bought it at great expense many years ago as a Japanese import. Sakimoto's FF Tactics soundtrack is also exceptional.

Also agree with the guy who mentioned The Seatbelt's, the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack is beyond compare.

My top album is "The End of the Beginning" by God is An Astronaut. That album still blows me away just as it did when I heard it for the first time a year or so ago.

Other favorites-

Mono - Hymn to the Immortal Wind - I heard their other releases first but this is top for me.
Portishead - Dummy
Jakob - Solace
