Being 37 years old and a huge fan of Prog Metal I can honestly say MetalStorm has been the best internet find I've ever made; I would have never discovered bands like Riverside, Agalloch, Disillusion, Dark Suns, Oceans of Sadness and Enochian Theory without MetalStorm's content and its members! So I ask you all, jot down some must-hear prog-metal and the like.

I've been listening to Royal Hunt these days. I find them very interesting, maybe a little similar to Dream Theater, but not that technical and perhaps with a more symphonic approach to their music.

There's a band called Dream Child. I think they only ever released two albums but if you like old school Dream Theater it has alot of those characteristics. I remember being there with a friend while he picked it up at a local Slacker's. It's been years since I listened to them..

Oh another band I might suggest would be conception, even though I really only like their first two albums.

Check out their first and third albums. Their first one and third ones are the best. Devin Townsend produced (and sang) on Dichotomy.

I you like progressive death Augury is certainly a good choice, and Quo Vadis too. But they're more progressive and technical, kind of stuck in between the two genres.

I would say that Quo Vadis is a technical death metal band and not a progressive death metal band...there is a distinct different...
Symbyosis is a good example of progressive death metal...
@sasquatch: I 100% agree with that...when I listen to those two bands (and also BTBAM), it is like they are stuck between...well...lets say multiple genres...

About 3 Months ago, I sincerely thought that there was no Prog Act here in Brazil.

I obviously knew Angra, but it wasn't a pure Prog band. We also have in Brazil Freakeys, a excellent Instrumental Prog side-project of the guys from Angra and Hangar, but it's very, very underground, just a 4fun project.

That idea completely changed when I had found Mindflow, they deserve more attention of the Metal Community. Intelligent Lyrics, excellent technique and feeling, conceptual albums, good production... I recommend you to check their debut, at first. All albuns can be downloaded at their site.

The second Album is VERY Dream Theater-oriented, the Third one is a bit overproduced, even mainstream sounding, imo. As I told, I recommend their debut, very emotional, yet technical. All of them are Conceptual albums and you can play at their site a strategy game based on the story of the Third album, and a mini Guitar-hero as well.

In addition, they just have released the last track of '365', which is an album they released 1 song per month of the year. It sounds to me a mix of the other albums.

One band that no one has mentioned yet is Beardfish. I am recently quite obsessed They're more prog rock than metal, but don't let that deter you. There are certainly heavy moments... as well as jazzy, soulful, and funky moments. And one hell of a Wurlitzer player!! I can't describe, just listen. TRUST ME

And just to reiterate some of the bands already mentioned (in case you still haven't listened - DO! They have my vote for sure.)

Myrath
Star One
Threshold
Freak Kitchen

Um, if you are a fan of 70's progressive rock (Gentle Giant, Genesis, Zappa, etc.), I recommend them.
