Being 37 years old and a huge fan of Prog Metal I can honestly say MetalStorm has been the best internet find I've ever made; I would have never discovered bands like Riverside, Agalloch, Disillusion, Dark Suns, Oceans of Sadness and Enochian Theory without MetalStorm's content and its members! So I ask you all, jot down some must-hear prog-metal and the like.
Ark
Poverty's No Crime
Tommorow's Eve
Communic
Subsignal
Psyco Drama
Magnitude 9
Dreamscape
Disperse
Empty Tremor
Section A
Aching Beauty
Mind Key
Tunnelvision
The Dust Connection
Dali's Dilemma
Hourglass
Innerchaos
Thought Chamber
Sun Caged
The Shadow Theory
Deadsoul Tribe
Gordian Knot
Darkwater
The Quiet Room
Andromeda
Planet X/Derek Sherinian
Mind's Eye
MindFlow
Anubis Gate
Huge props for these names! Mind Key's "Pulse For A Graveheart" is so damn enjoyable. I should check out the rest though, I've heard of some, but never listened to them, and some I haven't even heard of.
Damn, thats a cool list. Its been years since I was a prog head. I just saw a list with Circus maximus on it and had the sudden urge to listen to some of my old favourite prog albums, but I can't seem to find any of the older stuff
I would add OSI, disillusion and karnivool to that list as well.

If you never wake up from a dream does it become reality?
We could name 25 more bands too couldn't we? Alot of nice prog metal over the years!
Tru dat. I mean there are always good bands that you find over the years that you forget about.
I used to be a big prog head, but over the years my preferences have changed, I still like listening to most of those bands though.

I can say the same thing. Rush is my favorite band of all time and Fates Warning a top five. I love Riverside and Porcupine Tree and Subsignal but I just haven't had the heavy dosage of prog metal like I usually do. Weird.
Hmmm if you want more prog bands and suggestions/recommendations and anything prog visit progarchives.com Best prog site ever.
I can't seem to make it function for me, I'm used to the MS layout so I have no idea how to check out new releases only or stick to what interests me or find logic in their genre tags. How do you search for new prog metal in progarchives?

I don't think you can search for prog metal by year.
Well there are a lot of smart people on that site devoted to prog and what not. You should join the forums and post a thread about prog metal recommendations and what not.

Are you recruiting? I think this is a MS violation!

Nah, it's not
I have my own little league of proggy people on MS who search for good releases with me... luckily, as this is a good era for prog metal, I don't have to search far and wide.
Well, I've been on the website quite a few times over the years as a guest. IMO, it needs a major overhaul - it looks like shit, needs more organization - it is a great source for prog recs!
I have discovered Progarchives. Check out there if you already haven't.
Yep. A lot of info but the website design is the fucking worse, can't stand it.
yeah the design is lacking comfort, but their lists and ratings are pretty accurate and provide decent suggestions based on progressive subgenres. Some of their genre-labeling is a bit off, but whatever. I found some good bands through that website.

I agree their is a ton of info but it's presentation is piss-poor. It mine as well be in a foreign language...
I don't visit this thread a lot, but I found a pleasant prog album and I thought I might recommend it although it's more of a prog rock album rather than a metal one Ordinary Brainwash - Me 2.0
Sadly they have no Myspace no Bandcamp and no official website (at least google gave me no results)
