In a devout and ritual oriented way, this is how you must put in your CD-player "Antithesis Of Light" because we're talking about the best, probably, doom metal release of 2005 coming from a renowned band, Evoken.

And suddenly the horizon darkens, swallowing every single ray of light that tries to penetrate the gloomy clouds, hate and pain are the only emotions that reign supreme and everything starts decomposing. "Antithesis Of Light" is a rotten album, yes, rotten, filled with hate, pain and despise for everything pure. "Antithesis Of Light" is the dark esotericism that lies behind every twisted imagination and awaits for any moment to drown the listener in the depths of this fathomless imaginary world that becomes more and more vivid as the album flows slowly and in a torturing way.

Until I heard this album I considered The Maniacal Vale to be the greatest funeral doom album, naturally after hearing this release it changed things somewhat.

Very dark atmosphere and heavy as fuck. This is the pinnacle of funeral doom for me.

At first, I had no idea what Funeral Doom Metal was. Then I listen to the song 'Antithesis of Light', and I now understand only one thing: I MUST have this album.

I like this album a lot but still I find Quietus to be the best they have done and I prefer A Caress of the Void to this album

And I actually can't see any album beating The Maniacal Vale

something else , I think Evoken's music tend to be more Death Doom than Funeral Doom

Before their new one comes out I thought I'd check all the previous albums and I've got to say this sounds as good as Quietus (the only one I've heard from them), are these guys flawless?

About as flawless as a band can be.

I bought a drum set after listening to this album. Turns out I suck at drums but still the album moved me to do something drastic..

Like Quietus, this album is just monstrous and massive. Truly excellent funeral death doom here.

Good Shite, I'm just now hearing this. Took me a few times listening but when it clicked its a really solid piece of funeral doom. Maybe cursed premonition is the song that drags this for me a bit, but other then that a very worthy album.

Their best work, I'm sorry Quietus. Almost feel boring at first listen, well this is funeral doom, and I can get it at my 5th listen.

Evoken, one of the band that can evoke the dark abyss atmosphere... really creep, haunting, dense.

Great album. Not sure if I love it as much as the rest of the folks here on MS, but still, a great album. "The Last Vitality" is one of the best album closers ever.
