Anathema have long since abandoned their trademark style and their current eclecticism is as much of a trait as it is a fault. Willingness to experiment and grow as a band is, of course, always praise-worthy; however, Anathema have a distinct stench about them - the unmistakable, shiver-inducing stench of being a follower.

Hopefully I'll change my mind after repeated listens, but so far I only enjoy the last four songs. The rest sounds like a weak ass version of dredg or Crippled Black Phoenix in my opinion.

Totally agree with Collin. But then again imo ANathema already went shit after The Silent Enigma with only a couple of good songs every release.

it just doesn't sound like you listened to the album

how can you seriously say that Thin Air and Summernight Horizon sound 'weakass' or like 'versions of whatever'. the only real difference between the last 4 tracks and the remaining 3/4 is that the songs in the middle have a much happier, hopeful feeling. is that what you have a problem with?

another recycled and predictable opinion. shit because it's not oh-so-metal-like-everything-should-be?

whatever your think, you should at least agree that it's completely unnecessary to criticise something that hasn't been your cup of tea for well over a decade

Well, there's no need to get all touchy about that, is there?

I listened to the album three times so far, admittedly while I was working so I didn't pay full attention. The only songs which awoke any kind of interest in me were the last four. And I don't know if you're familiar with dredg and Crippled Black Phoenix, but this new Anathema album gives serious nods to these bands IMO, or at least it sometimes coincidentally sounds a bit like them, and less good. Like I said, I'll give it more time to sink in but I won't say it's godlike if I eventually think that it sounds like shit, you know

Oh, for the record, I like post-Silent Enigma Anathema better than their doom period.

hm, i hope i didn't leave the wrong impression though, i'm not defending the album or trying to make anyone like it, even though i love it, i just demand people to be fair and objective, and not inclined to bash (or even mindlessly praise) something they really don't get (yet)

Therapy?

I like the music. But some songs don't have that genuine "Anathema-feel" to it. So, it's not really what I expected, but it's not bad either.

I'll have to listen to it some more before I really rate it, but the above is what first came to mind when listening

I liked the atmospheric rock played in this album.

Melancholic in a different way, not appealing to the extreme sadness, just peaceful, dreamy and sometimes light-hearted.

Successful in its purpose
