I totally agree. Veronika was very good, but somehow I can't enjoy it a lot (some songs are rather underwhelming to me).

Yeah, but for how long? With idiots voting 1's it's going to drop pretty fast. Rating this album a 1/10 is unjustifiable whether you like the music or not.

Probably the longest period a Doom metal record has sat on top
I probably have never heard an album that I'd rate 1 and maybe that's because I try to stay the hell away from stuff I know I won't like.

I got some attention by posting in the Shoutbox, and pointing out that 1s were all by Be'lakor fans... Unfortunately one of the votes that was removed, came back and voted the very next day. Oh well...

Really? I wouldn't know since I'm only really active on MS for a couple of months (registered longer than 2 years ago though). And yeah, I'd probably only give a 1 to a bad Nu metal band (which is my least favourite genre I suppose)... so I'd never listen to Nu metal in the first place, though when I would, I'd start with the best Nu metal band out there. To sum it up, the guy who voted a 1/10 is probably someone who hates seeing Saturnus on #1 in the top 20, or he just really hates the genre (which would be strange).

A lot of people seem to enjoy this more than Veronika (including me), yet it's "only" rated an 8.6, while Veronika has an 8.9.

Gettin' a whoooole lotta 'meh' out of this one on my first listen. Romantic death-doom that overuses weepy guitar leads, and just isn't very engaging. I will admit I typically dislike the more romantic doom bands, but I've enjoyed previous Saturnus releases. This just fails to stand out amongst the slew of great doom releases this year. Sorry guys, I don't understand the hype.

Are you being serious? You can't judge an album after only 1 listen. I'd always listen at least 3 times, but mostly 5 times before even rating an album. I began liking Saturn In Ascension way more after my 5th listen, though that's just me. Their debut is better than this, but it still destroys Veronika and Martyre easily for me.

There are two users that voted 1, and vote "Enslaved - RIITIIR" 10. I'vge already voted "Enslaved" and "Be'lakor" album 10, cause I really enjoy listening to them. but it's unfair to vote 1 just because you love other album be at top of top 20

There may be an album you enjoy it from first listen then after some replay it'd be boring or vice versa

I am being serious. In 99% of all cases I can have a very formulated opinion on a n album after having only heard it once. But it has to do with 33.5 years of experience of listening to music?

Really... And your opinion doesn't change after you've listened to it for the 5th time for example? That's a lot more experience than I have; you can take off 30 years That being said, I'm the complete opposite when it comes to rating music. For example: Summoning... I hated Minas Morgul (seeing as you think the band as a whole sucks, you'd agree I assume ) the first time I heard it, though only after the 5th time or so I began to really like it.

Generally I can tell when I'm not going to like an album, even with time. I do agree with you to an extent; there are plenty of albums that have taken time to sink in with me after I had only a somewhat positive reaction to them right away. But I had a pretty solidly negative reaction to this one right off the bat, and knowing my tastes, I doubt that's going to change.

Meh, personaly i don't care if it doesn't make it in the top 20, even 1000 of 2012. Point is i enjoyed the atmosphere, solos and leads...
Though i must say am shocked that peeps just downvote other albums to see their favs high on the list, worse i have a hunch they haven't even listened to the albums they downvote...must be something IMPORTANT to see your fav album at the top of a metal storm list

A hunch you say, eh? I'm pretty damn sure those 3 1/10 votes come from users who haven't listened to this album, since they all give either 10/10 ratings or 1/10... and those 10/10's are often 2012 albums. Pretty dumb to downvote anyway; the rating on MS doesn't really influence my own rating, nor does the top 20 of each year influence it. If you remove those 3 1/10 ratings, this album would easily be back at #1, which means the new Enslaved album would be back at #2, so at least those trolls have succeeded in bringing this album down.

After listening to this album 10+ times I can finally judge it properly: it's amazing. That being said, they definitely improved upon Veronika and Martyre for me in every aspect, though it's still not quite as good as their debut, which will always be a special album to me. Every track is great, but Litany Of Rain, Wind Torn, Forest Of Insomnia and Between are definitely my favourites. The other 4 tracks are great as well, but I like them slightly less. The bonus track suffers from bad production and it doesn't really fit the album, but it's still a good track. My rating would be a 9.5/10.

But it also has more votes. You're right though... I checked the 2012 ratings of those 7 users and it seems they all hand out pretty extreme ratings (mostly either 10/10's or 1/10's, though 1 user has rated both Saturnus and Enslaved a 1/10).

On a side note, where the hell did De Profundis come from all of a sudden (as it's at #1 of the top 20 right now)?

Must have just got its 20th vote so now qualifies for the list. With so few votes, won't take many troll votes to bring it down.

I'm not sure, though it's a fact that Saturn In Ascension cannot be rated even a 2/10, which equals to "pure shit". Even if this isn't your kind of music, then you still cannot call it pure shit. For example, I rated Viva Emptiness a 5/10 because I hate the vocals and lyrics. I want to rate it lower, but if there's a certain genre/style I don't like, I know I cannot really form a justified opinion on it. A 3/10 equals "very bad", which could be someone's opinion, so I'd say a 3/10 is the absolute minimum for this album.

Oh crap, now I've done it. You already know that I live in Tilburg, but you'll never know where exactly (at least I hope so).

Seriously though... I can't stand the vocals and lyrics. I love everything Katatonia did up until Brave Murder Day (that album is a masterpiece and in my opinion their best). I've even given the album a second chance a while back, but I still couldn't even finish listening to it. I might give it another chance to prove it to myself.
