A new Kamelot? I know that all the Power Metal fans are awaiting it? After the great "Epica", which is one of the best albums of the style, it was really hard for the Americans to do something amazing like this precedent album, but impossible is definitely not equal to Kamelot. You understand me very well, they did it, Kamelot certainly just produced their best album so far, no doubts for me?

To be honest with you, another review of this fine piece of Metal isn't really necessary, since Jeff's review told you exactly how good this album really is.
But that's also the reason why I thought I should write down a few of my thoughts about it and post it as a second opinion review here.

"The Black Halo" will continue the concept of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's opus, which started with "Epica".

I've never found a generally acclaimed album so unappealing. Manufactured, cold, boring, and flat-out generic. I almost felt like I was listening to an Evanescence album at times.

Wow Momento Mori, simply amazing.

Clearly the standout track on the album......."The Haunting" and "Nothing Ever Dies" would come in at number 2 and 3.

It is a mystery for me... it isn't my usual style of power metal, so I guess I needed to get familiar with it.

Yeah after a few more listens, it's not quite as amazing as I initially thought. Still a fantastic album though.

I bought this album several years ago after I first discovered Kamelot. Having drastically expanded my tastes and discovered a tremendous amount of great metal since then, I must say that this is still and may always will be my favorite album of all time. Featuring brilliant and melodic guitar work, beautiful symphonic elements, and a wonderfully balanced rhythm section, the instrumentals are incredible in their own right. Tying it all together is Khan's astonishing operatic vocals, not to mention great appearances from Simone Simons from Epica and Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir. This album is the perfect combination of light and dark, fast and slow, presented by lyrics that are nothing short of poetry. This is a masterpiece. I'm not going to talk about my favorite song or tell you which one I would listen to in order to get a good idea of what the album sounds like; I'm just going to tell you this: If would like to be immersed in metal poetry, then buy this album, put it on repeat, and learn for yourself what makes it so incredible. 10/10

Please, not even more. The vocals are good, I admit, but I don't really like the way he's singing, that's my opinion. That album is well done and got something interesting, but this is not my universe.

Very good album, in my opinion it's their best album: the storyline, performance, production, intrumentally and lyrics are really good. It's one of the best symphonic albums ever, and one of the best of the decade.

Anyone else found the hidden track 0?

If you haven't and want to hear it (it's just an opening narration a la "Dear Editor"), rewind the album in your cd player until it's at about -1:20 on track 1.

^^ yes, it's a great album Lanette... probably still their finest outing.

Have you tried any of the albums by Seventh Wonder, Karevik's former band? If you haven't, I think you'll be in for a very pleasant surprise... ;-)

First gig was Manowar (loincloths 'n' all), Bristol Colston Hall in March 1983, on the 'Hail to England' tour. Tickets were £3.75, 300 in the audience, Mercyful Fate never showed, but my hearing still got seriously trashed..
