An open letter to Arch Enemy.

Dear Arch Enemy,

Back where I come from we have this saying; "You can only hate Arch Enemy, if you hate having fun". So obviously I was pretty excited when I heard you were releasing your first studio effort in over six years (unless you want to count the utter abomination that was
Rise Of The Tyrant[i], which I kind of don't). After a couple of spins though, my excitement gradually turned into concern. Which is why I'm stepping up to lend a helping hand (which I assume was your intent, 'cause I'm just that modest).

Aside from the first two albums, they've always been "safe" though. Not that there's anything wrong with that. lol I doubt they'll ever do another "Stigmata", (a challenging, but inconsistent album) thats for sure.

you said it right. stigmata surely was a challenging album but also very very inconsistent. the shorter songs (3-5 minutes) are much better than the long ones... much better. generally arch enemy are enjoyable but not something more i think.

Actually, the longest track on that album "Bridge Of Detsiny", is one of my fave Arch Enemy songs. But all the other experimental type songs didnt really work for me. The more straightforward tracks like "Beast Of Man" and "Sinister Mephisto" were much better.

yeah i agree with you. though i dont like THAT much bridge of destiny, surely it is the best out of the long songs of this album!

btw i dont like that much the title of the new album... i dont like it when bands play with words in order to be "cool" etc...

The word gen means "illusion" or "apparition." In India, a man who uses conjury is called a genjutsushi ["a master of illusion technique"]. Everything in this world is but a marionette show. Thus we use the word gen.

I was attending a listening party of the new album in Paris yesterday (2 weeks before the official release), and although I didn't stay long enough to listen to it twice and despite the noisy background, I think I can safely say that you're right. It sounded very Arch Enemish as in the last 3-4 albums, so I don't think one should expect to be surprised.
Yet, of course, the album did seem to rock just like the last 3-4 albums did

i liked the style of the last album and it's energy. but the truth is that arch enemy have become a very safe band after anthems of rebellion. at least i hope that the new one has 2-3 VERY good songs. that's all i expect....

This Album - except 3 or 4 tracks - is so ordinary for Arch Enemy and they didn't do anything innovative ... some riffs and melodies are good but the whole album was a repetitive work for Arch Enemy ... in the best way i give 6.5 or 7 to it ...

Haha, yeah. It's very stadium metal, not particularly creative, more a display of technical prowess. Like the one before really.

Nothing new.
Indeed it was a good album, but just for a single listen.
I was expecting more from them.
