Deathspell Omega's Paracletus was certainly one of the most anticipated Black metal releases of 2010. With a history such as theirs come high expectations. Expectations they do not live up to.

Whoops. Did I just spoil the ending for you?

No, Paracletus does not live up to the expectations, but that's no surprise really, when the expectations are so unbelievably high. There's no shame in that. Unfortunately, in my opinion Deathspell Omega also disappoints in terms of delivered insanity and intensity.

Finally, after six years, the incredible trilogy started on Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice ends with this new album from French metallers Deathspell Omega.

Paracletus is among noteworthy Black metal albums of 2010 and can be summed up as a monumental construction of dissonance and darkness.

Disclaimer: I know that Paracletus is nominated in the MS Awards 2010. Please do not see something like to influence your voting decisions or anything... but more like a little reminder. Vote for it or not, that's not the point and it does not really matter. But please do not miss this piece of art.

If this is really the cover art, it kind of reminds me of Leviathan's ''Massive Conspiracy...''.

This should be an awesome release, looking forward to it.

I've listened to this one a couple times through now. I'd say it's okay, but really nothing to get too excited about. They do have a neat way of layering the sound, especially evident on Apokatastasis Panton, but I would rate this middle-of-the-pack as far as 2010 releases are concerned.

The fact that anyone could possibly begin to justify giving this album a 1 or 2 rating is an insult.

The fact that anyone could possibly begin to justify giving this album a 1 or 2 rating is an insult.

That usually happens when an album starts to get highly praised, then someone gives it 1 or 2 just for the sake of downrating it. Nevermind, it doesn't affect the album's real value after all.

Clearly the crescent exposition suffered by the band was urging for a proportional crescent accessibility of the sound... -_-'

I would give this a round 7, snapping one point off for slowing things down, and for the abscense of a +10min long song... =/

Listen to the entire trilogy chronologically back to back so starting with SMRC and ending with Paracletus, but without an interruption so 166+ minutes of DSOon the trot.
I know it's along haul, nut let me guarantee you it's worth it and so much more things on all three albums suddenly make much more sense and get an entire different meaning. And then all the Paracletus naysayers will realize what a perfect closer to the trilogy Paracletus is.

Especially when it comes to technical music, if I don't listen with good headphones or I listen through my speakers, then it tends to sound like a mess. This added to the possibility of poor production and shit like this is hard to listen to. I'll definetely check this out. I've head good things about DO. Not only that, but Deathspell Omega is probably one of the best band names I've ever heard.

The more I listen to this the weaker it seems. Obvious chord progressions, overtly meandering songs and technical wankery in place of intensity make this a weak link in an otherwise exceptional DsO discography.

I was recommended this band by several people when I told them I was trying to get into BM. I didn't really like it... Yet I love Nyktalgia and Austere...

Is something wrong with me?

Well... this is definitely NOT an album I would recommend to anyone who wants to start to get into BM. Because it's not bm in the traditional sense not to mention it can be hard to stomach to those who don't really listen to this music...

Listen to Kenose or Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice instead of this one.

So... those people just told you one random album without thinking tbh.

SMR,Q is more accesible but it's very long (but hey, you can just stop it...) so I'd go for that one. The first three songs (long intro + two songs) sums the atmosphere of the album nicely.

EDIT: More listens lead to ... it is just brilliant haha.
