Additional info
Totally re-recorded in 2008, produced by Gary Holt and released October 28 as 'Let There Be Blood' - Guitarist Holt and drummer Tom Hunting are the only members to appear on both albums

'Bonded by Blood' remastered, limited silver edition also released in 2008 by Century Media with bonus live tracks

The album was originally titled A Lesson in Violence, but had its name changed when an appropriate cover idea could not be found. An advance cassette copy of the album (with the original title) was widely distributed through the tape-trading network upon the record's completion in the middle of 1984, creating an immense underground buzz prior to the official release of the LP. The release was delayed due to problems with the artwork

Bay area legends Exodus's debut release Bonded By Blood is often hailed as one of the most influential thrash albums of all time. It's what you would expect from artists coming from the Richmond, CA area during the 80's crack epidemic, even nowadays Richmond is frequently among the top 10 most dangerous cities in The United States at the end of any given year. Bonded By Blood is a gritty, dirty, violent and highly aggressive work just like the environment and time period that spawned it. What other band can make a song about sadistically killing and raping that people can party and dance to? Not Many. I respect Exodus all the more because they aren't "shock rock." They are still realistic in the sense that they aren't only "doing it for the image" or to get a reaction out of people unlike some other more popular "extreme" bands portray themselves. Bonded by Blood to me is like home cooking. It may not be world-class, critically acclaimed cuisine, but every time I eat at a fancy restaurant, it's good but not satisfying. Sometimes after I eat at a gourmet restaurant, I end up going to a local hole-in-the-wall type spot to get food that is just as good; sometimes even better and will actually satisfy my hunger. I feel the same way about this piece; it may not be refined or "plated artfully," but damn it's good.

I don't give Ten often to an album, but this one is Metal Awesomeness embodied
This is probably the most remarkable Thrash Metal work ever created and the less polished one.
Exodus did much more than just delivering a good album, they totally fucked with our brains
by giving us some Metal Brainwashing material. This album is beyond perfection
I can't point you any flaw or bad song on this master piece. The Performance is great
The tracks are original, deadly and incredibly raw and on top of that it never gets boring
I even like the remastered version with a new singer and line-up (Let There Be Blood). Solos are killers, riffs are heavy
and the vocals filled with emotions.

20 on 10... great job Exodus you got me hooked

Personal Favorites (even if everythings good)

- Exodus
- Metal Command
- Strike Of The Beast

Isn't that completely re-recorded? So it's different from the remastered version... it's a totally new album (aside from the songwriting)?

Yes that one is totally re-recorded. So it is not a remastered version.

Well seriously its two different sound... I wouldn't say its better only because its the original but it has its particularity... and the vocals are totally something else. But both are great.

^^ I think Guib may have interpreted the last part of his post as asking if the original album was better, not if the original artwork was better...

To answer his first question, the original "Bonded By Blood" actually has two covers. The original artwork can be seen at the top of this page along with the tracklisting. Due to controversy over the original artwork, when the album was reissued in 1989, the cover was simply a big Exodus logo in yellow and blue, over a black and red background. By the time I was properly into metal, this was the only cover for the album that was available. Although I was aware of the original artwork. lol The original artwork has since been restored on newer re-issues. The "Let There Be Blood" cover is a new interpretation of the original artwork. The background is darker, the babies now have wings, and the Exodus logo is dark red with a steel outline. Im not sure if it's computer generated, but it looks like it may be... :\

I much prefer the original album, although I actually prefer the re-recorded version of "Metal Command" over the original. I love the re-record of "Strike Of The Beast" as well. xD Generally though, the songs sound much better in their original guitar tunings, and with Paul Baloff on vocals. \m/

Actually ONLY in a couple of countries (UK and Germany spring to mind) but not in a lot of other countries, where the orignal artwork was still used, even on the reissue.

Really? I wasnt aware of that, thanks for that info!

The UK was one of the countries that had the original artwork replaced. lol As I said, for a long time, I only ever seen the album in shops with the censored cover. And the cassette version of the album I own has that cover. xD Im not surprised actually that Germany and the UK happened to be 2 of the only countries that banned the original cover, seeing as both countries have strict censorship. The UK, not so much now, but definitely back then it was very strict.

I know but looking at the roiginal art I really an't see the problem anyone could have with it. Both babies are alive, even though one is evila nd the other good.

Excellent in - your - face thrash. Kind of annoying vocalist, but he suits the music. The riffs are some of the thrashiest I ever heard, the shredding solos are very good. Only one bad thing. The No Love acoustic intro doesn't suit the album AT ALL!

Among the best thrash vocals ever recorded. This was extremely violent music for 1985, although Possessed were probably the most extreme band at the time, releasing Seven Churches almost 4 months later.

27 years down the line and this album is still the best thrash album ever. To be honest I am pretty sure that this little ditty will remain the best thrash album ever till the end of times.
