After listening to bands such as Black Sabbath and Megadeth and songs such as 2 Minutes to Midnight by Iron Maiden and 1983... (A Merman I should turn to be) by Jimi Hendrix, I've come to realize that I like lyrics about impending doom, war and it's after effects.

Any recommendations?

Well, I'm not sure if this is what you're lookin for but Tristania's songs Wormwood and Hatred Grows (lyrics here) have similar themes. The term ''Wormwood'' is taken from Book of Revelation, and Hatred Grows is themed about the crusade wars.

These are the first two songs that come to my mind thinking of apocalypse and war, I'll think of some more probably.

Killing Joke has quite a few, of course, just check "Asteroid" and "Pandemonium".
Dark Tranquillity has "Inside The Particle Storm"
And for Neurosis it's "Stones From The Sky"

If you like Black Metal in general, it has alot of this, but a classic about war theme is Panzer Division Marduk

Impaled Nazarene also came to my mind now (but only later albums... first ones are more about wacky goat sado and that stuff you know )

I second Impaled Nazarene. Their song Return of Nuclear Gods is a good one.

Anthrax - Aftershock
Carnivore - Thermonuclear Warrior
Black Sabbath - Electric Funeral
Queensrÿche - Surgical Strike (possibly, the lyrics are a bit obscure)
System of a Down - Boom!
