Where can I find information on numbers of metal albums sold?

I was always interested in information from this kind, but it is actually something very rare to find. Do you know how or where I could get my hands on any information on how many albums different metal bands sold worldwide, in the states, in europe or in different countries. I'm really interested in this and I would greatly appreciate any kind of information I can get my hands on.
Even if for example you can give me information on one single album in one single country it would be helpful.
Thanks in advance

does it work at all... whenever I've tried something like this, I've always recieved an answer like "We do not give out such information"

may be that's the way it is and this info is just not out there and the labels keep it for themselves...

well if the label says doesn't tell you how many copies of an album have been sold, that info will almost certainly not be anywhere else on the internet. Only the label really has access to that kind of information.

but i can't imagine why a label wouldn't tell you.

i don't know why, but they don't... and there are some paid sound scan services of something that provide the info... also the lebels report sales somewhere so they can get certified with gold, silver, pratinum and so on albums if the numbers reach the needed levels...

Yeah, but that's just in case of bands who sell albums in a big number.

nope... you report all shipments from the begining... and when you start selling the record you don't know if it will reach large quontities or not... so you are reporting shipment with the according association in your country... for example the RIAA in USA... and if the album makes it, it does... otherwise it doesn't but you cannot know from the begining so you report all album shipments... and the thing is that is the only way to be legit, with your business... or for sure the main one

and ther is another system called Nielsen SoundScan... and it is a system that indicates when a record is bought in a store that works with the system... which apperantly are most of the stores that sell records at least in the USA... i'm not sure how things work internationally and it's much more difficult to track... the problem is that the Nielsen SoundScan is a paid service...

But why won't the labels disclose the information? Maybe the bands themselves disclose it in their websites? It's something I myself feel curious to know about.

Probably RIAA's official site.

Not at all, they don't have records for the underground bands (where metal is almost underground) anyway, RIAA is a handful of suckers who they think they will tell us what to do.

Man it would be great to find out information like that.
But it would be even better to know what album has been downloaded and how much times , so bands could find out how much they are losing to piracy.

That's impossible... I doubt if anyone involved in the electronic piracy would keep and give this kind of numbers... And after all, I don't think the bands are loosing much because of this. It's a kind of free advertising...

On almost any mp3 dowloading site is something like a list of most popular downloads , I ment something on that but on a larger scale. It's true about the advertising , it's not a loss for the band if the user who downloaded the album is from a different coutry or continent , it would be a loss when in the bands city the album gets sold 500 times , but downloaded 5000 times pr more.

But electronic piracy has the form of torrents and rapidshare files as well. So you can't expect each user giving the stats of how many times his files have been downloaded or how many times his torrent got uploaded or how many times he sent an album through MSN messenger and things like that...

All the stuff I want to find are in torrents. I have the torrent harvester search engine and it searches my keywords in more than 70 torrent sites. I can find everything this way, from the most underground metal to the sickest porn ever made!
Give it a try if you have a DSL connection. They take hours to complete sometimes...

I have a DSL connection , when I download from rapishare the dwn speed is around 60 kb/s , but on torrents it's only around 25 kb/s , some guy I know said something about port forwarding or something like that.
