Damn, we've got some old dogs (or posers, no real way to tell for sure) here.

I've been listening to metal for about 2 years now, 1-1.5 years as my favorite style. (Although I didn't consider myself a metalhead a year ago when someone asked me when I said I listened to metal and rock, it had become my life by the time of May/June of last year, and I had to accept metalhead status.) I thought about buzzing my hair back in the fall like I had last May, but when I thought about it I realized how awesome it would be to have long hair. It's halfway down my neck in the back and down to the tip of my nose in the front, so I've still got a ways to go. Call me a poser, but I just want to represent the fact that I'm a metalhead the good old way (still considering how hard I'd laugh at myself wearing a denim cutoff, studded armbands, and skinny jeans, '80s thrash style ), and hell, I'm gonna be having to get a new job before long, so in case I have to cut it to get hired, might as well do what the fuck I want to while I can.

I was mainly meaning the guy who said he started listening to metal in 1970. Just seems kind cliche, but still believable. And I don't know just from your word or the word of others on here that you actually are 44, I'm just taking your word for it. I could actually be 47 instead of 17.

I also have one pic with the old man in my profile. He exists.

Regarding the topic... I think I started checking out the genre more seriously and in my own (because anything before was just me listening to what my step-bro listened) back when I was 13-14.
That would be 6-7 years or so.

Since the beginning of 2005, so 8 years now. Started with Nightwish, then I searched for similar bands and found Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Sirenia, etc. Don't think I'll ever get bored with metal!

Since 1999...I was fascinated by the genre before, but never really tried to involve myself into it.

Then a friend of mine introduced me to some bands and i became very fascinated....then I started to discover new bands on my own..and the rest is history

About 10 years now, but I find that as I grow older my music tastes become more diversified. When I was 16 I only listened to metal (power, NWOBHM and the lighter metal genres) and now its about 20% of my total music collection. I still very much enjoy it but I its not exactly a conversation starter at events. However I do find myself persistently gravitating only towards the more darker and heavier subgenres within this mass of music.

I listened to my first metal tracks which I like about 9 years ago (some metallica's black album tracks) but I was not really into metal since they were the only thing metal which I was listening those days (also, maybe playing 5-6 songs once in a week). I started listening to metal more seriously since I entered the university in the Fall of 2008. My path since then :metallica, linkin park and some megadeth/more extreme stuff like death and some slayer, also, I started to listen to doom by means of saturnus, anathema and emprioum/extreme prog metal like opeth and melodeath/giving up melodeath and getting more into prog metal/ starting genres like drone, black, industrial and ambient (this phase is 1 year old)

About a year and a half now (basically since i stopped drinking) .I drench myself in the sound of black metal everyday but have never been to a gig. That's what i like about it though i don't feel like i have to go to a gig to enjoy the full feel of it like i did with punk bands. A lot of the bands i listen to don't even play live anyway

I have been listening to metal in general since the mid-90s (stuff like Metallica and Megadeth) although it wasn't until late 1999 that I discovered the "metal underground" so to speak and, as they say, the rest is history.

About five to six years now. It's a bit hard to tell, because some of the stuff that lead me into metal is musc that can be considered metal or not. Stuff like Linkin Park or Within Temptation. But I'd say it started around 2009 with bands like Kamelot, Blind Guardian, DragonForce and Disturbed (that one's still iffy) and then I slowly began my journey through all the sub genres, in which MS has been a huge help.

At least some fifteen years ago (but I think it's more). I was just a strange child when I've started to listen to bands like Black Sabbath, Type O Negative, Metallica, Sepultura, Ozzy... But since I was fourteen (like ten years ago) I've entered in the world of Black Metal and became really fascinated by the genre (the first band was Old Man's Child, the album, Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion). Today I can't really say if I can live without Black Metal, it makes me go on somehow, it makes me resist my deppression.

And yet you still know fuck all na good effort, very impressive. Has it been relatively the same genre or all genre's through out, or has it varied through the years ? i'm guessing the latter.

What do you think? I started out with Kiss and Scoripins and such back in 1979 and am currently listening to SOlothus on the stereo, just compare them to the first two bands

Might as well say i have been listening to metal for 18 years, started listening to NOFX and the Misfits at 12 and now am listening to things Gris and Trist.
Be solid if anyone on here had been purely dedicated to the black metal scene or something for a straight 20 years.
