Wow! What a step forward Cannibal Corpse has made! Synthed orchestras, accordion, even some female operatic segments thrown in! This is clearly the dawn of a new era for this band, reinventing themselves into something far more intricate, dynamic and delicate than we've seen from them - or metal in general - for ages.

I've just finished listening to "Torture" in full for the third time, and Alex Webster's assertion that every song on the album would be individual and easy to tell apart from each other has for the most part at least, been proven to be true. "Sarcophagic Frenzy" sounds different to anything the band have done before, with it's undercurrent of melodic qualities. I really love the savage mid-song breakdown which flows seamlessly into a harmonized melodic solo. Elsewhere, there's the morbidly catchy "As Deep As The Knife Will Go", the bizarre rhythmic qualities of "The Strangulation Chair", complete with some stunning bass work by Alex, and the creepy as hell "Followed Home Then Killed", which features a very dark melodic intro, which again, is not standard CC fare.

Overall, this one is a vast improvement over their disappointing last album, and might even be better than the modern classic "KILL", although it's too early for me to make that assertion yet. Definitely one of their best ever albums though!

In just two days, I've already listened to "Torture" way more than the previous album, which just about says it all about how I'd compare the two albums. Listening to it on headphones yesterday only increased my positive feelings towards it, as it highlighted the subtle differences between each song all the more. You can definitely tell that the band have tried hard this time to make every song unique, and keep things fresh without straying very far from their signature style, which is a very difficult thing to do, but I think they have largely succeeded in what they set out to do with "Torture". It's still undeniably Cannibal Corpse, but there's little bits and pieces in certain songs that made my ears prick up a bit in surprise.

Great album!

Of course, how could I forget. I don't even know why other bands are even releasing new material, since they'll never surpass the glory that is Evisceration Plague.

It's inflated right now because the only people who voted thus far are fans.

Just wait until the rest of the site catches wind of it at the top of the charts. It'll probably end up anywhere between 7.9 and 8.3.

Really solid CC release, however, i think i might have enjoyed their previous two records more, i'll have to give it a few more spins to decide that though

Cannibal Corpse doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence with Asphyx tbh.

My rating is biased simply because I love Cannibal Corpse!!! I've loved them ever since a high-school girlfriend bought me Hammered Smashed Face on tape...
Torture sounds a lot like other of their albums which is not necessarily a bad thing. I love the fact that they remain true to their convictions and keep delivering bone-crushing Death Metal !!!!!!!!

more devotees than haters. Actually. I think I am the only true CC hater here, who hates everything they have done and find them incredibly boring both on album and live. It's with reason I call them Cannibal Snore. Imo they are the single most overrated death metal band around.
