This album reminds of the the 15th century when me and my father would raid the coasts of scandinavia with our viking friends. All in the name of Thor and Heidevolk!

There's nothing viking about Heidevolk whatseoever
They are most probably anti-viking. But seeing they hail from Gelderland, no vikings set foot in that part of The Netherlands.

Who cares if there were vikings in their native country?

Heidevolk does and so do I. There were Vikings along the coast of the Netherlands, but not in Gelderland (the part they and I come from)
Hedevolk doesn't play viking metal, simple as that.

Does viking metal actually require the participants of the band to be living in a country where vikings once were? Because otherwise this sounds like viking metal to me.

Imo it does. And if they're not fromthere they should sing about viking themes and use viking instrumentation and have some sort of viking music going on which Heidevolk doesn't at all.
It's all pagan folk metal both lyrically and musically.

First of all the age of Vikings was dead long before the 15th century and secondly Vikings CAME from scandinavia, so why would they raid they homelands?? they raided the british isles, the iberian peninsula and the rest of europe and slightly beyond.

Heidevolk does have some Viking themes in their music but its minimal so I wouldnt consider them "Viking Metal". Instead they are pagan folk, in fact Heidevolk translated to English literally means Pagan Folk.

Cool conversation, but to me I cN say pagan prefix fits in here better. Another good album, sad I don't understand Dutch.
