These are some of my favourite symphonic metal bands, Haggard, Therion and Within Temptation being pure symphonic metal and the others symphonic +some other style,

please dont only vote but also explain your opinions

i myself went for Magica, the beautiful keyboard lines, the virtuous guitar riffing, the wonderful solos and guitar/keyboard duels, the awesome vocals, great band

I don't listen to symphonic bands, but my favorite band that utilizes symphonic effects is Emperor.

Rhapsody of fire is my biggest name. Their early five albums are quite fundamental in my book and everything else looks like a clone of them.

Nightwish is also my corner stone in comparation, maybe because they are my first kind of this metal.

other symphonic project that I like, Fairyland, Avantasia Metal Opera 1 and 2.

Sirenia is great. Therion is a bit weird and experimental to me. Within Temptation is also great especially their earlier albums. But Unforgiven is very nice as well, only less heavy.

haven't heard Haggard and Adagion, quite the shame since I always read great review on them.

Wonder why Nightwish aren't on the list?

Probably none of the mentioned bands. Would go for bands like Whyzdom, Xandria, would add Wintersun now as well with Time I.

Even though Demons and Wizards isn't really "symphonic" per se, I voted for them in a heartbeat, I find them way better than any of the other bands here. Hansi Kürsch's vocals kick ass as always. I'm not really the biggest fan of the more symphonic style of metal anyway, unless the symphonic elements are more tasteful and complimentary to the heavier music. I'm just glad i saw something with Hansi here.

Out of that list, definitely Therion. They introduced a lot more to symphonic metal, and were unique. It's too bad that they've taken the direction they've taken. Their latest two albums were very disappointing.

My vote goes to Rhapsody just because Kamelot isn't here.
