Alcest has never released any real full length album but the French band is already cult. After a split and a demo, Neige (the main man of the combo and? only musician) found a deal with the famous German label Prophecy to release his first album, "Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde". The album will be out in August and you can be sure of one thing, we will remember it!

Don't let the ratings be an indication for you. Alcest improved DRASTICALLY on their second album, which experienced metal fans should listen to first (in my opinion).

I don't really think of this as a metal album, but it's very beautiful nonetheless.

The production here is very different to Alcest's other albums, yet it still retains that beautiful atmosphere and manages to support the hypnotic, flowery songs running throughout. A very good debut that never seems to go on for too long.

The guitar sound appears heavier than the future releases.....But still so relaxing, so soothing. I love Alcest. Gorgeous sound as always

I prefer this to Neige's following efforts. It isn't exactly metal, I know, but it is surely soothing, beautiful and relaxing. "Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde" and "Ciel Errant" are both fantastic songs.

Shame that he couldn't keep it up for too long. The latest one is good imo but just a shadow of what he did before. But still... Check out Le Secret and Écailles De Lune. Those are at least as good as this one imo.

Yeah, I've read that his latest album isn't as great as the first two, sadly. I'll be sure to check out the 2nd album and EP though!

There's not much of the black influences in this album, try out Ecailles Des Lune, where the black elements are present.

It was a reference to that post in the Mastodon album thread about the last minutes of a song that were supposed to sound like Alcest. A joke, that you just missed .

Exactly. I am omniscient. And immune to cheap sarcasm and gratuitous shots coming from less funny and intelligent people.

Now don't quote me back here, this is off-topic. You can be as unpleasant as you want in the pub.

This is exactly the kind of music I love the most, and everyone is talking about Alcest and how it's the greatest blackgaze band ever. After giving it a listen,I can say, I'm really not THAT impressed. It's not bad either, but honestly it doesn't even come close to stuff like Agalloch or Wolves In The Throne Room...

Indeed. This particualr album is too saccharine and sweet for my tastes. All happiness and niceness and what have you and the chord-progressions just seem so uninpsired and basic. I prefer my music with a more obvious touch of melancholy and less obvious chord progressions. Try the follow-up to this album, though ;-). It's not the best thing ever, but it is better.
