Lets see if we can resurrect this thread, here is a band called Vasaeleth who play a very evil and murky style of death metal similar to Incantation. Killer album artwork also.

Yeah a bit late, I heard it the last year, and it sucked, alongside with "Withered's Dualitas", how the hell they got nominated, I still don't know.
Anyway that's only my opinion.

Absolutely great old school nasty death metal this. But if one prefers clean sounding clinically triggered balst beat modern death metal then Vasaeleth certainly won't be their thing.

Well actually I like both, Old School Death, and Modern Clean sounding Death metal, I also like crappy sounding Brutal Death, and that's absolutely not my problem with Vasaeleth or Withered, but opinions vary.

Someone mentionned Bastard Priest earlier in this thread.
I've been listening to their Under The Hammer Of Destruction a lot lately and it's an amazing punky modern old school death metal album. I bought the album and had it in my wishlist for a long time, but I can't remember who or what recommanded it.
Maybe I saw a review in Rock Tribune or online or maybe someone on MS namedropped the album, I don't know, but one thing is for sure: great band, great sound, waiting for their 2011 album.

Yeah that album is great, You just cant beat Stockholm Death Metal in my eyes. Speaking of which Morbus Chron have released their first LP, Check this out.

I knew it came out, but didn't listen to it yet. Good song. I'll check the rest of the album later.
Pulverised has some nice bands under their belt.

You guys should check out Void Meditation Cult. Mid-paced, dirty, old-school Death/Black Metal in the vein of Beherit's Drawing Down The Moon. They're on the label Hell's Headbangers now, and their debut demo will be out soon. You can listen to their song, "All Of The Devil's Temple" here: http://www.hellsheadbangers.com/vmc/
Hmm, I haven't seen any mentions of the Dutch Burial. Extremely underrated Death Metal in the vein of Massacre. A great band. Their album, Relinquished Souls is very rare and I've been looking for it for quite some time. It's on eBay now and it's already reached 50 euros 8 days before the auction ends. Anyway, check out this song, The Second Coming:
Latest news on the upcoming re-release. It is planned for February 2012 and will include the Frigid Cold demo as bonus.

Old School death metal albums that I've enjoyed that I don't think have been mentioned on this thread:
Vibrion-Diseased
Armoured Angel-Angel of the Sixth Order
Headrot-Among the Remains
Hey guys, so I'm really into thrash metal, and I've been looking for some old-school death metal, along the lines of Death, Master, Morbid Angel, etc.
Just wondering if you can recommend anything, thanks.
Hey, I'm a big fan of thrash, Death, and Morbid Angel, and I've really been enjoying this new OSDM, Demisery. I bought the album, Hive of Mutation, and have been playing it repeatedly. I love the old-school vibe done with stronger production values... thought you might like it too.
Second the Necrophiliac mention. Great release. Glad it's getting a reissue. For recs, Afflicted's Prodigal Son is a great old school release that may have gone unnoticed. Also, anything by Corpus Rottus. Haha, so many others come to mind.

I voted this as best debut in the 2011 awards.
Great album.

Good call! I voted for Demisery too.
More people need to hear this album. I found the awards to be a great way to check out a few things I hadn't heard before; too bad this album was so new and unknown when the awards started to show up in the main list of nominees...
Possessed is what it's all about. I have always liked them, but seeing them live was so amazing. If you want old-school death metal doesn't get much better than that in my opinion.
I also like Cannibal's Eaten Back To Life and Entombed's Left Hand Path.
Nowadays I cant quite make up my mind. I'd rather attribute the beginnings of the genre it to a bunch of the early Death Metal bands Death/Mantas, Possessed, Obituary, Morbid Angel etc. I don't think it just came into existence with one band.

Don't forget Death Strike, Slaughter

Indeed, They are quite unsung compared to a lot of the large bands but they played their role in Death Metal's formation.
