If someone don't have taken their time to look through my list of favourite albums, I could mention some of the lesser known old-school death metal albums here: Sororicide - The Entity Sorcery - Bloodchilling Tales Cemetary - An Evil Shade Of Grey Convulse - World Without God Hazael - Thor All of these albums are dark and quite "atmospheric" death metal. Apart from Polish Hazael all of these belong to the Scandinavian death metal scene, but Hazael sounds quite Swedish too. I would also like to recommend The Crown - Eternal Death, but that album is often labeled as melodic death metal instead of oldschool death metal, and has nothing in common with Gothenburg metal, rather it perhaps could be compared to the first two (also great) At The Gates albums, but sounds quite different from them too.

Suffocation, Sarcofago, Incantation, Six Feet Under, Entombed, Autopsy, and of course one of the very best At The Gates. Get Slaughter of The Soul by At the Gates. You won't be disappointed.

If you want to recommend some At The Gates it's best to recommend the Red In The Sky for that is true old-school death metal and not the watered down stuff the band released with Slaughter

From this year: Vorum - Poisoned Void it has some touches of black metal imo, but maily osdm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nq-mdcHczc Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 21.04.2011 at 23:08 I was actually quite surprised myself, I heard about them a few months before I came back to the country and I hope to see them perform live. It's nice to see a real, no frills, no bs death metal band in israel, been waiting for this a long time. I mean, there a few other israeli dm bands that have good stuff but in my humble opinion they get sidetracked eventually with being progressive, technical or groovey.

Solstice's first two records are kick-ass. Their debut is has especially righteous riffage. It has Rob Barrett of Cannibal Corpse on guitar and vocals so it's an interesting listen for CC fans regardless.

My favorite old-school death metal bands (and each of their best albums) would have to be; -Demigod: Slumber Of Sullen Eyes -Purtenance: Member of Immortal Damnation -Depravity: Silence of the Centuries -Convulse: World Without God -Amorphis: The Karelian Isthmus -At The Gates: The Red In The Sky Is Ours -Bolt Thrower: Realm Of Chaos -Vomiturition: A Leftover And one really good one I recently came across was Cianide: The Dying Truth

New Krypts album (Unending Degradation) is pretty great. A bit better production iirc compared to previous ep's, lots of doomy, murky bits as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdWcSQLKp5s I'm pretty curious to see how the new Tribulation will be like, their debut is one of my favorite albums in general. I heard a sample of the new album online, seemed a bit less bombastic but a bit more dark, and maybe abstract in a way.

01.04.2013 - 13:19 Written by Sunioj on 06.03.2013 at 14:46 new Tribulation is quite different. Very much less standard osdm revival stuff which The Horror clearly is.

01.04.2013 - 13:19 Written by Lord_Regnier on 01.04.2013 at 01:40 Just to take my recommendations out of the CC Butchered thread... Also check out Maveth, Necrowretch, Invidious, Venenum, Excoriate (ger), Desolate Shrine, Alchemyst, Cryptborn, Degial, Gorephilia, Charon (although more black in there), Tribulation (even though their latest one is quite different to their debut), Sonne Adam (problem already know them), Mordbrand, Vanhelgd, Acephalix, Disma, Encoffination, Graveyard (Spa), Undergang, Necro (Ita), Miasmal, Burial Invocation, Entrapment. Actually there's loads of good stuff in that old school death metal revival.

01.04.2013 - 15:15 Written by Sunioj on 01.04.2013 at 15:04 when they go all out jammy they remind me of an osdm version of newer Enslaved. Btw Tribulation were live extremely good.

I got a nice album recently: Obscure Infinity - Putrefying Illusions. Very atmospheric Death Metal. Some people might have problems with vocals, as they're not typical of Death Metal. Lots of them lean much towards Black Metal.

FDA Rekotz has quite a lot of osdm bands on their roster and Chapel of Disease is one of them. I'm not totally sold by Chapel of Disease though I like their sound, but among others Deserted Fear, Revel in Flesh and Sulphur Aeon are my favored acts. I won't bother linking Sulphur Aeon because everyone knows them and imo on the fence with osdm :p

I wouldn't call Sulphur Aeon old school death metal, tbh. Imo they are way too modern and quite sterile sounding for it.

12.04.2013 - 21:56 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 12.04.2013 at 16:40 "Swallowed By The Ocean's Tide" is an awesome album with its own atmosphere, Imo. But I wouldn't call it old school Death Metal. It sounds more modern, though not really like any other modern Death Metal album. I think there's also something reminiscent of Dissection and Sacramentum in the sound (and vocals).

@Lord Reigner I think Sulphur Aeon is reminiscent in the sense that it has a lot of atmosphere and the feel of the album is very epic. @theFist Never noticed this band before, I looked them up and they have alot of albums. Which would you recommend?
