Opeth - Rehearsing With New Keyboardist, First US Tour Dates With Katatonia Confirmed

According to the French edition of Rock Hard magazine, keyboard player Joakim Svalberg ( Yngwie Malmsteen, Glenn Hughes) has been rehearsing with Swedish progressive metallers Opeth for the past few weeks - but has not yet been made an official member of the band. You can expect an official announcement imminently.

Keyboardist Per Wiberg, who joined Opeth back in 2005, was relieved of his duties in April as part of a mutual decision with the remaining members of the band.

In other news, Opeth will embark on a seven-week North American headlining tour in support of the forthcoming album, Heritage.Taking place in September/October, the tour will also feature Katatonia. A complete list of confirmed dates looks as follows: (thanks to Vykintas)

Joakim Svalberg, eh? To be worthy of being an Opeth keyboardist, we'll need to see if he can grow a beard like Per. By the looks of this picture below, I'd say his chances aren't very good.

The similarities stop between those bands and Opeth stop after the death growls. I'm sure Opeth will grow on you if you're not really into them yet.

Well all I know is that I REALLY wanted to see them when Enslaved toured with em (come on, Enslaved and Opeth? Fucking KILLER combo), but they didn't come here. I can only hope they come down here this time. It's definitely a possibility, a lot of international metal bands usually come down to the Culture Room and/or Revolution (both in Ft. Lauderdale) and play. A headbanger can have his dreams

Not to mention totally irrelevant to the topic. If they're so much better go post on their pages! Or at least relate your post back to the topic, which was Opeth rehearsing with a new keyboardist, and announcing tour dates. Not comparing them to bands that are totally different in style. Nice try anyway

That was definitely an off-topic spam comment. There's nothing wrong with thinking that, but that is simply an inopportune, irrelevant comment for this thread.

Anyways, I'm wondering if I can make a gig in the midwest somewhere.
